If you could write your own life story, what would you title it as? In fact, something to ponder over even more is what you would like to be remembered as and what kind of legacy you’d like to leave. That is exactly what happens to Harriet Lauler, played by the iconic and legendary actress, Shirley MacLaine in the much talked about, spectacular film, The Last Word. In the brilliant movie, Harriet Lauler, a once successful businesswoman who takes control over everything that goes on in her life, seeks out a local writer, Anne Sherman, played by the stupendous and profound actress, Amanda Seyfried, to write her obituary. However, as her life story doesn’t turn out to be up to par with Harriet Lauler’s liking, Harriet turns to Anne to help her change that and create a lasting legacy that she can pride in. As a result, the two ladies form a bond like no other that shows that both the past and the future can change with the right timing and the right people.

The Last Word is a remarkable film and piece of artwork. With such a magnificent, all-star cast, an immensely talented director, and a compelling and thought-provoking storyline – The Last Word has all the qualities and more that it needs to be one masterpiece of a film. There are a lot of excellent movies, but then, there are movies that teach lessons, and that allow you to learn about life and your very own life journey as you watch the film. That’s exactly what The Last Word allows all viewers to do. The Last Word brings viewers on a journey of discovering and re-discovery their own identity. The movie makes individuals think: “What have I done in life?” and most importantly, “What have I done in life to impact the lives of others, inspire others, help others, and care for others?”

Harriet Lauler had four distinct qualities that, to her, makes one’s life worthwhile. A person should be loved by family and friends, respected by co-workers, have made an impact in a person’s life, and have a quality or skill that makes you different from others. It was up to Harriet and the help of Anne and a young girl named, Brenda who joins along the journey and is played by the wonderful, AnnJewel Lee to make her life a memorable one and a life that makes the last word unforgettable.

Needless to say, the whole cast: Shirley MacLaine, Amanda Seyfried, AnnJewel Lee, Thomas Sadoski, as well as director, Mark Pellington have brought out such a terrific and exceptional film. There’s drama, comedy, and a touching story and this is a movie that will certainly move you. It will make you reevaluate what you have been doing in your life and what path you want to take or continue to take to make it a life that you will be satisfied over.
