Music makes the world go ’round, and it’s something that unites people even during the toughest of times. In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, people have been asked to not leave their homes, except for essential activities, such as getting groceries or picking up medications. During this time, we’ve seen how music has been able to unite people, even when we are instructed to distance ourselves from others. From people in Italy singing together with their neighbors, to School of Rock students learning how to play their favorite instruments virtually, the bond that music brings can never be broken.
School of Rock, the leader in performance-based music education, is giving students globally the chance to continue their lessons online and let rock music live on with its Remote program. Through the program, students get to connect with their talented instructors via video conferencing and learn songs from rock legends including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Guns N’ Roses, and more. According to the press release, “The new virtual lesson room coupled with School of Rock’s proprietary Method App™, SongFirst™ approach and Method Books™ will offer a comprehensive music learning experience that is fun, educational and safe.”
Rob Price, CEO of School of Rock, shared his enthusiasm over the Remote program and said, “At School of Rock, the health and safety of our students is our top priority, which is why we have rapidly adapted our operations in order to meet students’ needs. School of Rock Remote along with our School of Rock Method App is a fantastic way to provide continuity and connection. Our instructors are gigging musicians, and they have shown their flexibility to make sure the music goes on.”
“We are thrilled to offer students the ability to further their music education from wherever they are,” said Ryan Schiff, VP of Operations for five School of Rock locations in Los Angeles (Burbank, Pasadena, West LA, Venice and South Bay LA). “School of Rock Remote allows us to provide the same level of instruction that we’re known for, but in a way that prioritizes health and safety.”
In addition to individual one-on-one lessons, group classes for Performance Program, Rock 101, Rookies, Little Wing and Grad School are also available. Now, students get to be reunited with their fellow rock friends through rehearsal check-ins and master classes. During the rehearsal check-ins, the class gets to catch up and see how everyone is doing and share their progress on the songs they’ve been working on. During the master classes, students engage in and listen to presentations highlighting important aspects of music theory, history, and more. It’s truly like one great musical explosion!
Joe Dias, Assistant Music Director at School of Rock West LA, helped create master class presentations. He shared his excitement over the progress of the remote classes and said, “We have been carefully and passionately putting together content to enrich our students’ lives during these times. We truly care so much about each and every student and want to do our part to make this situation even a little better and brighter for them. You can’t stop the rock!!”
School of Rock has also partnered with Hal Leonard, the world’s largest print music publisher of performance and instructional material, to give students a free 60-day pass to SheetMusicDirect.com, a nearly endless library of notation in virtually every genre, including rock.
School of Rock has truly created something special with their Remote program, giving students a musical escape during a tough time. Once you join School of Rock, you have joined a family. To sign up for virtual lessons, visit here.
