Every compelling story starts with a blank canvas. From Sony Pictures Classics is the wow-worthy, The Burnt Orange Heresy, starring none other than the greats: Claes Bang, Elizabeth Debicki, Mick Jagger and Donald Sutherland. With an unrivaled cast of acting geniuses (and the legend Mick Jagger’s return to a major film role after 20 years), an intriguing, edge-of-your-seat neo-noir thriller story and the picturesque scenery of Lake Como, Italy, The Burnt Orange Heresy has every piece of the puzzle to make a masterpiece of a film.

The film introduces viewers to James Figueras (played by Claes Bang), an art critic who conducts lectures in Milan. It’s during one of these lectures when Figueras meets a Midwestern teacher named Berenice, who is touring Europe. Berenice is instantly attracted to Figueras’ debonair persona and the feeling is mutual on his end. Figueras soon finds himself invited to art collector Joseph Cassidy’s estate (portrayed by the iconic Jagger). Cassidy gives Figueras one of those offers he can’t refuse as he blackmails him to steal a painting from the renowned and recluse artist Jerome Debney (played by consummate actor Donald Sutherland), who lives on Cassidy’s estate. The irony is, Figueras talks about art authenticity in his lectures but isn’t all that authentic himself, and has some secrets to hide, which is why Cassidy’s opportunity is one he can’t turn down.

As the story progresses, viewers become more acquainted with how complex and multidimensional each of the characters are. They all have their own back-stories. Needless to say, the captivating movie quickly takes a turn to the dark side pleasing both art fans and thriller movie junkies.

Directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, The Burnt Orange Heresy revolves around an art world premise, and is a work of cinematic art in and of itself. It’s sophisticated, riveting and quick-paced. Then again, how could you possibly go wrong with a stupendous cast like Bang, Debicki, Sutherland and Jagger?! It goes without saying, this movie starts off with and goes out with a bang.
