“McKellans always figure things out.” – Netflix’s Family Reunion
The beloved McKellans are back for a whole lot more fun, family bonding and hilarious moments in part three of the highly-acclaimed Netflix series, Family Reunion! As viewers all over the world watched the McKellans continue to adjust to life in the South and under M’Dear’s roof, the McKellans were not just a TV family, but became a second family to all viewers as well. We got to celebrate their wins with them and also experience all of the obstacles that came their way. We’ve been a part of each of the McKellan family members’ journey, and it’s just the beginning. Family Reunion has impacted the lives of viewers in more ways than imaginable – from putting a smile on viewers’ faces as they watch the show to serving as a great comedic escape to binge-watch, especially during an unprecedented time like now with the pandemic, when laughter is something we all truly need.
The third part of Family Reunion, which is out now on the streaming platform, brings an endless amount of excitement, musical episodes and amazing guest-stars, while allowing us all to enter into the McKellans’ lives even more. The show is not only a masterpiece of a comedy series, but it’s also a learning experience about life and the current state of the world.
Series Creator, Showrunner and Executive Producer Meg DeLoatch said in a note shared via a Netflix press release, “In Part 3, the McKellans will grapple with comprehending death, experience financial insecurity, explore the awkwardness of discussing race with nonblack friends, and fight gentrification after discovering the importance of knowing their history. The younger characters learn from the lived experiences of their elders.”
From first crushes to family traditions and even teaching the importance of honesty, this new season of Family Reunion has a lot in store for fans to enjoy. It’s worth noting how refreshing it is to see how the cast and creator Meg DeLoatch were able to bring such a wholesome show to life while still touching on important subjects and sharing wonderful and touching memories to our screens.
Needless to say, part three of Family Reunion is something special and is a show that’s good for your soul.
One incredible, young lady who we all adore is the exceptional Jordyn Raya James, who takes on the fan-favorite, lovable role of Ami in the series. The marvelous Jordyn Raya James’ talent truly shines in the series. Seeing James’ spectacular, acting chops on our screens makes our day. Every scene she’s in, James leaves a lasting impression and we all cannot get enough of her. Alexisjoyvipaccess: An all new season of Netflix’s hit series, Family Reunion has made its way to the streaming platform and this season is filled with even more excitement! What was it like for you filming part three of the show?
Jordyn Raya James: It was really a different kind of experience because we had filmed episodes during the COVID pandemic, and we had to rehearse in full PPE, be socially distant, and had to do constant tests. Besides that, I loved being back on set with all of my friends and TV family. All of the new sets were really cool to come into as well.
Alexisjoyvipaccess: Is there a moment or memory that sticks out to you the most from working on this new season?
Jordyn Raya James: What sticks out to me the most is actually really funny. In the “House Wives” episode, I got to snatch a wig off of Mrs. Brandi Glanville’s character, and I will never forget that!
Alexisjoyvipaccess: We all absolutely love your character Ami – she is such a fun-loving, ray of sunshine. What’s your favorite part about playing the role of your amazing character?
Jordyn Raya James: My favorite thing about playing Ami is that she is a fun character. She is sassy and bossy to her siblings and Ami takes on some of M’Dear’s (Loretta Devine) attitude, so I get to take ques off of Mrs. Loretta Devine!
Alexisjoyvipaccess: One of the many fantastic things fans get to enjoy this season are a lot of marvelous, musical episodes. What was the experience like working on these episodes and the great, musical numbers?
Jordyn Raya James: It was a fun experience as I got to hear some of the other actors’ beautiful voices. It was also something different for the show, which I really liked a lot.
Alexisjoyvipaccess: Fans all over the globe adore watching all of the McKellans’ fun family adventures and we would love to be able to step inside their world even more. If there was a spinoff series created about your character, what would you like it to be about?
Jordyn Raya James: If there was a spinoff about Ami, it would totally be called “Ami and Her Adventures.” It would be about Ami and her friends or new experiences as she comes across them.
Alexisjoyvipaccess: In part three of the series, Grandpa (played by Richard Roundtree) says a brilliant quote: “McKellans always figure it out.” There are a lot of wonderful lessons viewers can learn from the series. What’s the biggest takeaway you’d like viewers to get from watching the show?
Jordyn Raya James: Viewers can see a lot of lessons in the episodes. Since it is a children’s program, it places these lessons at a level that can open up conversations. It is good for young viewers that may not have been exposed to some of these issues like racism, colorism, or even death. The episodes also bring some great parts of history that people wouldn’t talk about to their kids because it might be a little difficult to talk about. The show, I think, helps open that conversation up for parents.
Alexisjoyvipaccess: The outstanding set really allows all viewers to feel like we’re at home hanging out with the McKellan family. If you could keep anything from the set of “Family Reunion,” what would it be?
Jordyn Raya James: I would keep the head of wardrobe, because she is awesome and amazing and her outfits are fire!
Alexisjoyvipaccess: Lastly, if you could see anyone guest-star on Family Reunion, who would you like it to be?
Jordyn Raya James: I actually really enjoy having Miss Kenya Moore on the show. I know she has been in a few episodes, but she is really cool and she is always 100 with me and I really enjoy seeing and talking to her. Otherwise, I like the different guest stars that come up as a surprise each week.
