Fancy another slice? Prime Video‘s Red, White & Royal Blue became an instant hit as soon as it debuted on the streaming platform on Aug. 11, 2023. Fans were swept off their feet as the highly-acclaimed romance novel of the same name was adapted for the big screen, with actors Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine bringing the heartfelt film to life. From fan art to viral TikTok videos recreating scenes from the movie, Red, White & Royal Blue is a true sensation, and it’s coming back for more!
Prime Video hosted a special screening event for Red, White & Royal Blue on May 9 at The Culver Theater in Culver City, California. Due to the strikes that took place last year, the cast was not able to attend premieres and events for the film when it released, but they came back this year bearing some great news. Cast-members Taylor Zakhar Perez, Nicholas Galitzine, Uma Thurman, Sarah Shahi, and Rachel Hilson, filmmaker Matthew López, producer Sarah Schechter, and the author of the original novel, Casey McQuiston, joined together at the event for a Q&A after the screening of the movie. They excitedly revealed that there will be a sequel to the fan-favorite rom-com.
Needless to say, attendees at the event (and fans at home) were absolutely elated to hear the announcement, and we all can’t wait for more royally good fun. Although no other details about the sequel were revealed at the event, the Red, White & Royal Blue family continued the Q&A reminiscing over their wonderful time working on the film and sharing some of their favorite moments while on set.
Perez and Galitzine talked more about what it meant for them to take on their beloved roles.
“[Henry] is such a wonderful-feeling person, and I think Matthew [López] and I talked about this a lot that we wanted to take care of him, not wanting his story to be tragic, wanting him to feel seen and taken care of and live the life that he deserved to live,” said Galitzine. “I’m really lucky that I had this wonderful script where there were such deep moments of emotionality and vulnerability and a wonderful partner to play off.”
“So much care went into creating these roles with one another, and the amount of time and effort put into discussing the right way to do everything, not just by the book, but also for the [LGBTQIA+] community at large,” said Perez.
History is definitely about to be made with Red, White & Royal Blue 2. I had a spectacular time attending the Los Angeles special screening of the film. This movie is so extraordinary that watching it once truly is not enough.
