From The Fault in Our Stars to Baby Driver and many more, Ansel Elgort has been part of some of the most renowned projects. Elgort’s love for entertaining began at a young age when he trained as a dancer at just nine years old. He launched his acting career in theater with the off-Broadway production of Regrets. It wasn’t long before Elgort became a familiar face in film, appearing in the 2013 remake of Carrie, the Divergent series, Billionaire Boys Club, The Goldfinch, and West Side Story. His most recent work can be seen in the highly acclaimed series Tokyo Vice, a gripping crime drama that has earned praise from both critics and fans.
Beyond his work on screen, Elgort has also expressed his passion for the arts through other creative outlets. After spending significant time in Japan while working on Tokyo Vice, and even living there, Elgort learned calligraphy and held an exhibition featuring his artwork and photography. In addition, he is a musician and has shared videos of himself working on musical projects, singing, and playing the piano. He also pursued a career in EDM, producing tracks and performing live under the pseudonym Ansolo.
Ansel Elgort Gives Back
Elgort enjoys supporting meaningful causes that create positive change. Last year, he created pieces using Japanese paper, with all proceeds benefiting the Natural Resources Defense Council to help protect animal habitats.
He also lent his support to the 16th Annual Thirst Gala, the Thirst Project’s annual event that raises funds to provide safe drinking water to communities around the world. Elgort was reunited with his former castmate Nat Wolff to proudly support John Green, who was honored with the Cameron Boyce Pioneering Spirit Award.
“There are developing countries where people are put into danger because they have to go so far to get clean water, so what we’re able to do with the Thirst Project is build wells right in their community,” said Elgort in our interview. “Water equals life.”

I interviewed Ansel Elgort at the 2025 Thirst Gala, where we discussed what it was like for him to attend this inspiring event, what he learned from working with honoree John Green on The Fault in Our Stars, and so much more only in our VIPAccessEXCLUSIVE interview. Elgort also shared more about his recent calligraphy exhibition—hear what he had to say in our interview below.
