Lisa Lisa truly isn’t your everyday girl. She was destined to be a worldwide superstar from day one. Her passion for performing and music ran through her veins from a very young age. She sang in her church choir and was also part of a traveling singing group while she was in school. She was determined and had her vision set on taking over the music world—and that she certainly did. She was discovered at The Fun House club in New York City. Soon after, the iconic ’80s band we’ve all come to know and love formed as Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam.
The sensational group went on to produce countless hit songs, including “Can You Feel the Beat,” “I Wonder If I Take You Home,” “Lost in Emotion,” and “All Cried Out,” among many others. Several of their songs raced up the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
After dreaming of the day she would take the stage at Radio City Music Hall, Lisa Lisa saw that dream come to life. Eventually, she branched off into a solo career and showcased how multifaceted she is by acting in television shows and Off-Broadway productions.
In 2025, Lifetime released an inspiring and heartwarming film chronicling Lisa Lisa’s remarkable story. The film, titled Can You Feel the Beat: The Lisa Lisa Story, which is also streaming on Netflix, beautifully showcased the trials and tribulations she endured on her journey to legendary status. It’s clear how much love and dedication she poured into her craft, overcoming barriers to make her dreams come true while supporting her wonderful family. The movie also highlights how Lisa Lisa discovered she had breast cancer and how she persevered through one of the toughest moments of her life to continue bringing magic to the stage.
Of course, reaching your goals is only possible with a strong support system, and Lisa Lisa had that in the amazing Toni Menage. The Lifetime film showcases the incredible and unbreakable bond between her and Menage, proving just how dynamic a duo they are. Lisa Lisa and Menage continue to collaborate, with Menage also taking on the important role of her manager.
2026 is yet another busy year for the larger-than-life Lisa Lisa as she embarks on another tour. She truly is a force to be reckoned with, and her impact on the music world is unparalleled.
