Coal – it powers much of the things we’re using during every given millisecond of our lives. From the lights in your room to the heat in your home, majority of the electricity and power we receive is generated from coal. However, did you know that the drastic climate change we have been experiencing is largely due to the carbon dioxide emitted from coal? Think about all of the beautiful nature we have, the clean air we breath, the fantastic planet we live on and how that and more can all be affected because of climate change. In National Geographic’s eye-opening and stupendous documentary, From The Ashes, it focuses on the legacy of the coal industry, especially with our current political system. Will big businesses be able to keep the coal industry at the top or will environmental activists be able to bring in alternative energy sources and rid the world from the over excessive use of coal? From The Ashes had a very special screening that took place on October 30, 2017 at the Neuehouse in Los Angeles, California.

Words can’t even begin to describe just how beautifully this documentary was done. If you know about the war on coal or if you are new to the current situation, this exceptional documentary gives you the opportunity to see this issue from so many different perspectives. As a journalist, I can’t get over how much of an incredible job this documentary has done with being objective and not just saying “Coal is bad” but showing the other side of the situation too – all of the miners who will be losing their jobs and unable to support their families – and why it’s not so easy to just quit the use of coal. This documentary was incredibly fascinating and beyond educational and it’s a must that schools all across the nation show this documentary to teach everyone about the current stance we are in.

The documentary brought out stories of individuals who are directly affected by the coal industry. One family whose husband lost his job as someone who works with the coal industry and another individual who suffers from extreme asthma and it gets even worse with the polluted air. The documentary is heart-breaking yet at the same time, inspiring. From The Ashes motivates us all to stand up for what we believe in and make a difference in this world. We have to fight for the world we want to live in and the kind of planet we want our kids and their kids to live in too.

After the spectacular and breathtaking documentary, executive producers Sidney Beaumont and Katherine Oliver took part in a brilliant Q&A, furthermore opening the eyes of attendees at the screening. Sidney Beaumont and Katherine Oliver are geniuses along with everyone involved in the film, such as director, Michael Bonfiglio. Sidney Beaumont and Katherine Oliver have went across the nation screening this documentary and also speaking to many individuals to let them be acquainted with this life-changing fight with coal.

I, Alexisjoyvipaccess had an excellent time attending the special screening of From The Ashes and I cannot emphasize enough how much this documentary blew me away and made me even more want to make a difference in this world. After the screening and Q&A, a wonderful reception also took place at the Neuehouse.

From The Ashes is a documentary you need to see right now!
