She’s our favorite pretty little liar, an amazing, travel guru and she also happens to know how to make one epic and delicious burger. Seriously, is there anything that the phenomenal Shay Mitchell can’t do?! Shay Mitchell literally defines the word perfection. She first stole the hearts of fans worldwide with her memorable role as Emily Fields in the renowned, award-winning show, Pretty Little Liars. Since then, Shay Mitchell has been keeping busy with a countless amount of other terrific projects where we have been getting to see her stunning face on our TV screens. We also love keeping updated with Shay and all of her fabulous YouTube videos. From documenting her unforgettable time at Coachella to showing us all her flawless makeup routines, we always enjoy getting to binge-watch all of Shay Mitchell’s stellar content. Of course, we can’t forget to mention that she’s a total travel goddess. She has literally been to every country we could think of and all of her photos and “Shaycation” videos give us major #wanderlust. We could seriously go on and on about how spectacular Shay Mitchell is and we always live vicariously through her and all of her out of this world, exciting experiences.

One fantastic memory that Shay Mitchell allowed all of her fans to join along with her was when she recently teamed up with Chef Marcel Vigneron and his highly-acclaimed restaurant, Wolf to create a unique and scrumptious burger for Off The Menu and Postmates’ Secret Burger Showdown. Needless to say, Shay Mitchell and Marcel Vigneron created the most mouth-watering “Bougie Burger” and it is definitely one of the greatest burgers you will ever taste.

I, Alexisjoyvipaccess had the greatest honor of covering the Secret Burger Showdown and had an exceptional time interviewing the wonderful Shay Mitchell and the incredible founder of Off The Menu, Lawrence Longo at the event. What happens when you combine two of our favorite things – awesome celebrities and delicious food all at one event? You get one of the Los Angeles Times‘ LA Food Bowl’s most unforgettable events yet – the Secret Burger Showdown! Imagine this, you get to try out a total of nine, unique and incredibly savory burgers that are made by some of the greatest celebs. Phenomenal celebrities including rock legend Tommy Lee, actress and travel guru Shay Mitchell, consummate DJ Marshmello, Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal, rapper and comedian Timothy DeLaGhetto, YouTube star and #foodie Josh Elkin, model Charlotte McKinney, YouTube star and actress Alexa Losey and Los Angeles Times deputy editor of the food section Jenn Harris all joined in on the fun. These spectacular celebs teamed up with renowned burger restaurants including Grill Em All, Wolf, Plan Check, Badmaash, Button Mash, Top Round, Malibu Burger Company, Burgerlords and Cassells Hamburgers, respectively.

Celebs added their own signature touches to delicious and one of a kind burgers that they were able to show off at the event. Then, it was the big day!!! Off The Menu, created by Lawrence Longo, and Postmates presented the Secret Burger Showdown as a part of the LA Food Bowl on May 26, 2018 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. Celebrity collaborators and their burger vendor partners were at the event to go head to head against one another and see who really had the best secret burger and who won the coveted trophy with a burger on top. It was up to all of the attendees to see who would take home the trophy. Guests were able to spend an entire day trying out burgers and then voting for the burger they liked the best. Talk about the best day ever!! Who wouldn’t want to spend a whole day indulging in some of the greatest burgers on this planet?

The burgers were next level and seriously left everyone’s mouth watering. All of the tasteful, secret menu burgers were available for delivery yesterday, May 27th exclusively via Postmates. Needless to say, all attendees, burger vendors and celebs had the most extraordinary day. It was certainly burger heaven for every food enthusiast who attended. In addition, Halo Top Ice Cream was also at the event. After a juicy burger, you definitely would want something to satisfy that sweet taste bud, and that’s where Halo Top Ice Cream came in. This exceptional ice cream is not only absolutely scrumptious but it’s also healthy too! Next time you’re craving something to fulfill your sweet tooth, Halo Top Ice Cream is the way to go. The next step was to add some delicious fruit – you name it, they had it – from watermelons to pineapples and more. Attendees were also able to add a little spice to their life by adding some tajin to their refreshing drink.

Towards the end of the event, the winner was announced. Attendees voted and Plan Check and Marshmello won the prestigious trophy. Plan Check wrote along with a photo that was shared on its Instagram account, “🏆🏆🏆In case you missed it….here’s a sneak peek of our day at the @latimes @lafoodbowl Secret Burger Showdown! I, Alexisjoyvipaccess had the greatest honor of covering Off The Menu and Postmates’ Secret Burger Showdown event. This definitely was one of the most stupendous events. What more can you ask for — marvelous burgers, tasty drinks and many of your fave celebs all together?! Needless to say, Off The Menu and Postmates hosted one brilliant event that everyone had the most outstanding time at. It definitely brought pure joy to all who attended and it was a great way to celebrate Memorial Day weekend by chomping down on burgers made by magnificent celebs who spent the day at the excellent event too.

Big congratulations to Plan Check and Marshmello on winning this year’s Secret Burger Showdown and congrats to all of the burger vendors and celebrity collaborators as they truly are all winners as well.

For the past two years, the Los Angeles Times has managed to make May the most exciting and incredible month for all #foodies. Every day in May brings a whole new food-inspired adventure with the LA Food Bowl, which celebrates Los Angeles’ unrivaled and spectacular food and drink scene. From the “Things in a Bowl” kick-off party, which featured LA-based restaurants that served their delicious and renowned meals in a bowl, to a fun Mother’s Day pizza event called the “Pizza Fest… A Tutti Pizza,” the LA Food Bowl has brought food lovers an excellent event each day that featured a variety of amazing dishes – from soul food to Filipino treats, seafood, Mexican meals and beyond.

One of the LA Food Bowl’s most-anticipated events is the Night Market. The Night Market is a week-long event held at Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles. The Night Market is truly a one of a kind, magical experience. Where can you enjoy a celebration of food that spans over a 12-acre area filled with marvelous cuisines from all over the world? The only place you can take part in this remarkable food festival is at the LA Food Bowl’s brilliant Night Market.

The Night Market was absolutely exceptional and it truly surpassed attendees’ expectations. The phenomenal event had 50 different food vendors, outdoor dining areas and terrific, live music that added extra fun for everyone. This year’s Night Market took place from May 16th – May 20, 2018 and had about 45,000 attendees over the five days of the fantastic event.

 

There were many hidden gems at this year’s Night Market. Kicking off the sensational event on May 16th was a mouth-watering Filipino feast that featured admired chefs Charles Olalia of Ricebar and Cheese and Chad Valencia of Lasa. The following day, on May 17th, was donut heaven for all attendees. Blue Star Donuts, DK Donuts, Dreamy Creations, Glazed Donut Bar and Monarch Donuts all joined in on the fun and gave guests a taste of donut delight. In addition, there was also an Amazon Wine & Prime event with celebrity host Mark Oldman, a wine expert and personality, who presented wonderful wine pairings.

Ain’t nothing but a chicken wing! On Friday, May 18th, Night Market attendees were able to enjoy scrumptious meals with fried chicken. South City Fried Chicken, Dante Fried Chicken, Poppy + Rose and Daddy’s Chicken Shack gave attendees a dish to remember with their out of this world, fried chicken meals. The weekend continued with a wide selection of vendors on Saturday, May 19th. Cousins Maine Lobster, Locol, Dang Brother Pizza, Dreamy Creations, 3 Wheel Cafe, Blast Ice Cream, Wanderlust Ice-cream and many others were at the event and served up some good grub. Saturday’s Night Market event also featured awesome music from the LA-based cumbia band, Very Be Careful and DJ Scott Dallavo with Todd Simon on the trumpet.

The Night Market finished off with a magnificent, charity bake sale on Sunday, May 20th. Pastries from Huckleberry Bakery & Cafe, Milo & Olive, Sweet Rose Creamery, Broken Spanish and Valerie Confections were being sold at the event and all proceeds from the sale benefitted the LA Food Bowl’s charity partner, Food Forward.

It’s clear to see why the Night Market is one of the LA Food Bowl’s most coveted and talked about events. As the sun sets, the lights of the Night Market glow. That’s not the only thing that lights up. In addition, all attendees’ faces light up as soon as they enter the Night Market – it’s an unforgettable night that allows guests to leave the event with a full stomach and a big smile on their face.

I, Alexisjoyvipaccess had a stellar time covering the Night Market tour and this extraordinary event truly got everyone’s taste buds tingling. Vendors including Cheezus, Broad Street Oyster Co., BSOC, Pizzanista!, Lobsterdamus, Earle’s on Crenshaw, Dang Brother Pizza, 3 Wheel Cafe, Too Verde, Hip Hot, Delmy’s Pupusas and Big Mozz gave members of the media a sample of some of their wonderful dishes during the tour. The LA Food Bowl allows Los Angelenos to get a taste of the world through a whole smorgasbord of delectable dishes from some of the most respected and fan-favorite restaurants out.

You know what they say, “Problems come and go, but pizza is forever.” Pizza is, hands down, one of everyone’s favorite food to munch on. It’s like the best-friend you can always turn to and you know it will always make you feel oh, so good inside. So, what if we told you that you could have spent an entire day eating pizza and taste-testing some of the most delicious pies from beloved pizzerias around Los Angeles?! We know, your mouth is probably watering already. Well, it surely was a Mother’s Day well spent as the Los Angeles Times hosted its “Pizza Fest… A Tutti Pizza” event as part of its highly-acclaimed, renowned LA Food Bowl where attendees were in pizza heaven as they were able to try various pieces of scrumptious, artisanal pizzas.

The remarkable event took place on a sunny and marvelous Mother’s Day on May 13, 2018 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. Incredible vendors at the event included Urban Oven, Urban Pie, Prova Pizza, Verace Pizza Napoletana, Ambrogio15, DeSano, Il Romanista, OliveWood Pizza, Prime Pizza and the Good Pizza. Are you craving for a traditional, pepperoni pizza topped with tons and tons of cheese? Or what about a good ‘ol grandma pizza pie? Are you dreaming of a magnificent pizza pie with capers and anchovies? Well, all of those choices… and a whole lot more were at the LA Food Bowl’s Pizza Fest. Needless to say, attendees had their mouths full with some of the most decadent and outstanding pizza slices on this planet. 

 

Not only was the phenomenal event filled with an endless amount of opportunities to try a variety of different kinds of pizza pies, but guests were also able to enjoy fantastic, cooking workshops hosted by Authentic Italian Table, food talks, craft beer and music. Special guests at the event also included Daniele Uditi (Pizzana), Nancy Silverton (Mozza), Tony Gemignani (12 time world pizza champion), Phil Rosenthal (producer, “Somebody Feed Phil,” Netflix), Enzo Coccia (Pizzaria La Notizia in Naples, Italy), Zach Pollack (Cosa Buona) and Colman Andrews (The Daily Mean). In addition, Los Angeles Times restaurant critic Jonathan Gold and Los Angeles Times Deputy Food Editor Jenn Harris were also at the event to join in on all of the fun.

Who wouldn’t want to spend a day indulging in some of the greatest pizza pies that Los Angeles has to offer?! May is the month we all have been waiting for as it kicks off one of the most anticipated events – the Los Angeles Times‘ LA Food Bowl. This month-long celebration is every #foodie’s dream come true as every day in May there will be an exciting, food-inspired event. The LA Food Bowl celebrates the greatest in the Los Angeles food and drink scene. Are you a pizza fanatic? Then, you’ll definitely want to head on over to the LA Food Bowl’s “Pizza Fest… A Tutti Pizza.” Do you want to snack on some delicious treats from the outback? Then, you need to join the Australian BBQ event with Chef Ben Shewry. Do you love street markets and want to get your hands on some of the most mouth-watering treats? Well, the Night Market is definitely calling your name! It’s clear to see that there is never a dull moment during the LA Food Bowl and you’re going to want to grab your friends and family members to attend as many events throughout this month as you can.

Last night, April 30, 2018 was the start of all of the fun as the Los Angeles Times hosted its “Things in a Bowl” launch party for the LA Food Bowl. Attendees were able to enjoy scrumptious foods from a variety of spectacular and renowned, food stations. The event included foods that satisfied all of your taste buds. Sweet, savory and spicy – the “Things in a Bowl” event had everything and more that you could have possibly asked for.

Attendees were able to warm up their stomaches with a delicious, good ‘ol American meal from Honey’s Kettle. Get ready to get hungry (if you aren’t already) because Honey’s Kettle gave guests a magnificent dish filled with its signature fried chicken, an all-American mac n’ cheese (which was to die for!), maple glazed yam and a sweet krispy pepper. Yum, oh yum!

This year’s “Things in a Bowl” event was hosted at Rossoblu, which served some terrific treats including some prosciutto appetizers. Locol touched the soul of all attendees with their soul dish which included red beans, greens, rice and cornbread. There’s no surprise that Locol served one outstanding, fan-favorite dish as Locol was last year’s winner of the Best Restaurant Award at the LA Food Bowl.

One of the most highly-acclaimed Sichuan cuisine restaurants, Chengdu Taste, served a wonderful dish of steamed egg with ground pork. In addition, the skilled chef Antonia Lofaso from Scopa Italian Roots was at the event offering some superb, chorizo dishes. It was definitely a favorite at the event that people couldn’t get enough of. For all of the cheese lovers, DTLA Cheese had its own station where guests were able to feast on some delectable, artisan cheeses. Night + Market and Shibumi were also at the event treating food fanatics with the best of the best.

 

After a night of tasty and appetizing treats, it’s only natural that your sweet tooth would be triggered. Eat Wanderlust – aka the greatest ice-cream shop out, gave attendees a scoop of heaven with their out of this world ice-cream flavors. Guests were able to pick three flavors of their choice and have their scoops of happiness piled onto a one of a kind, signature ube cone. Eat Wanderlust brings ice-cream to another level. You will be amazed as you will never have had as mouth-watering of an ice-cream as this one. There’s no question as to why everyone was lining up to get their taste-buds tingling at Eat Wanderlust.

 

The consummate Los Angeles Times food critic, Jonathan Gold attended the phenomenal event. Admired chef, Yoshihiro Narisawa was also present at the event. More excitement continued as the winners for this year’s Restaurant of the Year Award and Gold Award were announced. Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger of Border Grill were honored with the prestigious Gold Award. The Restaurant of the Year Award was presented to Carlos Salgado’s exceptional restaurant, Taco María.

The “Things in a Bowl” event was an incredibly classy and decadent start to a month of sensational, food-filled events. I, Alexisjoyvipaccess had the greatest honor of covering and attending the LA Times’ “Things in a Bowl” event and it was a stupendous event that showcased what makes Los Angeles one of the most recognized food capitals in the world. This marvelous event brought together a variety of food from all over the world and it is just the start to a lot more foodie fun this whole month of May.

We all can agree that basically everyone is a #foodie. C’mon, who doesn’t like to eat?! It’s a great way to socialize, a fantastic opportunity to learn about different cultures and their cuisines, and when you’re bored, what else is there to do than eat?! That’s why the month of May is every #foodie’s dream come true as the renowned Los Angeles Times is back with its LA Food Bowl – a whole month full of food-inspired events that will get everyone’s taste buds going.

The highly-acclaimed Los Angeles Times presented a tasty preview on February 6, 2018 at the Otium in Downtown Los Angeles, California of its much-anticipated LA Food Bowl set to take place the entire month of May. Attendees were able to snack on some delicious treats in preparation for the big celebration of the LA Food Bowl in a couple of months. Dominique Ansel’s out of this world, mouth-watering cronut holes were all the rave and fulfilled everyone’s sweet tooth. Other incredible treats at the event included octopus tabbouleh, avocado beets with wild rice amaranth miso, roast lamb and cauliflower tacos, as well as some exquisite Prosecco to wine and dine with. It truly was a brilliant event and attendees can attest that after a day as splendid as that one, the LA Food Bowl can only promise even more excitement!

The LA Food Bowl has an endless amount of phenomenal events, panel discussions, chef collaborations and volunteer events that people can look forward to. The entire month of May will celebrate cuisines from all over the globe, recognize some of the most respected and admired chefs, many of whom will be making special and rare appearances at the LA Food Bowl, as well as other terrific food and drink-inspired events that you will never forget. Some of the many highlights from this year’s upcoming LA Food Bowl include the Night Market that will feature 50 food vendors, outdoor dining areas and entertainment in Grand Park from May 16th – May 20th. The Night Market was a big hit at last year’s LA Food Bowl and garnered over 45,000 attendees.

Other spectacular events to look forward to include the “Things In A Bowl” launch party which will also announce who will be presented with the Restaurant of the Year Award and the Gold Award. Last year’s Restaurant of the Year Award winner was Locol and the Gold Award was presented to Wolfgang Puck. Events including the “Changing the World Through The Power of Food” conversation, the “Outstanding in the Field” feasts, the “Scienceandfood” discussion at UCLA, the Food Tours of L.A., the Gold Film Festival, and the “Chef Showcase,” which is a one-day event with panels, demonstrations and tastings featuring leading chefs, are all events that you should mark down on your calendar and be sure to attend!

The best part about the remarkable LA Food Bowl, which will have over 250 events, is that it will also help bring awareness towards world hunger, food insecurity, food waste and sustainability.

The legendary and epic Super Bowl 51 made history this past weekend, and there is another Bowl that is making every LA foodie’s dream come true, and yes, we’re talking about The Los Angeles Times’ Food Bowl. Coming to you this May, The Los Angeles Times is bringing everyone 31 days filled with gourmet, delicious, and exquisite food at a citywide food festival called the LA Food Bowl.

Today, February 7, 2017 was an exciting day for The Los Angeles Times and every food lover as the renowned newspaper company announced its annual food festival. The spectacular event took place at Spring in Downtown, Los Angeles. LA Times Editor-in-Chief and Publisher Davan Maharaj, Los Angeles Times’ Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Jonathan Gold, LA Times Food editor Amy Scattergood, Test Kitchen director Noelle Carter, deputy editor Jenn Harris, LA Times VP of Public Affairs and Events Suzy Jack, and Executive Producer of LA Times Food Bowl Angus Dillon were all present at today’s event to ring in the marvelous news.

The extraordinary event was filled with some of the most superb and mouth-watering food that guests were able to enjoy. From an Oeufs Farcis – an appetizing deviled egg, to a delectable Fruits Exotiques (made with a vanilla panna cotta with passion fruit and mango coconut meringue), along with a Pomme Paillasson (including potatoes, house cured salmon and creme fraiche), some chocolate croissants, and more, attendees were able to leave the outstanding event with a smile on their face, a full stomach, and even a goodie bag filled with a Moet & Chandon champagne and a donut from The Donut Man. Needless to say, another thing that attendees were able to leave the event with was a lot of excitement as they get to look forward to a food-filled May.

In addition, the talented Napkin Killa brought some extra spice to the event with his mind-blowing drawing skills. As attendees mingled and enjoyed their treats, the Napkin Killa took only a few minutes to create tons of portraits of those who attended on a… you guessed it, napkin! Everyone was thrilled at how within no time, the Napkin Killa created a visual of the person on a napkin – talk about a masterpiece! He definitely put a new spin on the value of napkins.

 

Food is such an important part of everyone’s lives. It helps define a culture, it makes people feel good when they eat something scrumptious, and it is a significant part of a lot of the memories we have – remember your first date or a recent hangout you had with a friend and how all of those unforgettable conversations you had and relationships you created were all formed during a special breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They were all formed over a bond through food.

That is exactly what The Los Angeles Times is celebrating – wonderful dining experiences that people can share with one another, cherish, and enjoy. Food can leave a lasting impact and that is exactly what this year’s Los Angeles Times Food Bowl will do.

The Los Angeles Times Food Bowl will have a series of special programs “with internationally renowned chefs during rare U.S. appearances, including Massimo Bottura, chef-owner of Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, and founder of Food for Soul; Fergus Henderson, chef and founder of St. John in London; Rosio Sánchez, chef-owner of Hija de Sánchez in Copenhagen; and Magnus Nilsson, chef at Fäviken in Sweden.” (source: press release)

One of the many highlights of the LA Food Bowl will be the Night Market which will take place at Grand Park. The Night Market will be a fantastic outdoor experience including 50 restaurants and food trucks as well as live entertainment. The Night Market will take place from May 10-14.

In addition to enjoying all of the various foods offered throughout the food festival, another magnificent aspect about the LA Food Bowl is that it will also bring awareness towards food waste and take the extra step to reduce waste and help sustainability.
