
There is more than meets the eye in the masterpiece of a film brought out by director Park Chan-wook in “The Handmaiden.” The movie is remarkable, intriguing, and will have you at the edge of your seat wondering what is yet to come in the crime / drama film. The cinematography is spectacular and the storyline is so compelling, and just when you think you know what is about to happen, think again. Filled with so many jaw-dropping plot twists, “The Handmaiden” is certainly a film like no other.
“The Handmaiden” is inspired by the British novel, Fingersmith by Sarah Waters and the highly-acclaimed director Park Chan-wook brought his excellence and extraordinary talent to make the movie his very own. “The Handmaiden” follows a Korean woman, played by Kim Tae-ri, who is hired to be a handmaiden for an elite Japanese woman named Lady Hideko, played by Min-hee Kim, when meanwhile the handmaiden’s goal is to work with a conman to obtain Lady Hideko’s exorbitant inheritance.
Park Chan-wook is known for creating such stupendous films and “The Handmaiden” is another one of the many perfect examples of his masterpieces. “The Handmaiden” has made its rounds at the many film festivals around the world including the Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival and has left everyone amazed. The movie revolves around betrayal and devious moments but at the same time love and the longing for it.
Amazon Studios and Magnolia Pictures presented the LA premiere of “The Handmaiden” at the ArcLight Hollywood on September 27, 2016. After the phenomenal premiere, an incredible after-party was held at the Paley Restaurant with interactive and marvelous decor and activities inspired by the movie.
