We all know vampires for being the blood-sucking beings that we all fear, and the prevalence of vampire stories – from the infamous Dracula to the highly-acclaimed and renowned Twilight series, has truly been on the rise. Well, have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, these vampires are here to actually help? In the masterpiece of a comic book series titled, Daylight Sucks, a special twist is taken on the common story of vampires, this time, the vampires are vigilantes and they are here to correct all of the wrongdoings in society. Daylight Sucks revolves around the Alnwicks, a clan of vampires who join together as a family to help put an end to all of the bad things in the world. Each member of the Alnwicks has his / her own focus – whether it is women empowerment, LGBTQ+ rights, animals rights, and more, and when they see someone doing any kind of harm to another person, animal, or the environment, well, let’s just say, the Alnwicks are coming to get you.
Daylight Sucks definitely isn’t your average vampire story. It focuses on some very important and relevant topics that are needed to be touched upon especially now in this day and time. Daylight Sucks is a one of a kind comic book series because it sheds light and brings awareness to issues that many people deal with today. In addition to the story of the vigilante vampires known as the Alnwicks, Daylight Sucks also includes a bilingual love story focusing in on Esperanza Martinez, who is in search of a better life north of the Mexican border and to find her father she has never known. Needless to say, the stories in Daylight Sucks and the journeys that each of the characters brings readers in on is truly captivating and this is one comic book series you’ll never want to put down and stop reading.
Our favorite comic book series, Daylight Sucks wouldn’t have been made possible if it weren’t for the incredible geniuses behind it including Daylight Sucks creators, Craig Hurley and Katie Barberi. This phenomenal couple has made an awe-inspiring impact in the entertainment world through all of their projects – from acting, producing, and beyond. Now, Katie Barberi and Craig Hurley have brought their outstanding talents to the world of comics with this stupendous series that we all love reading. There are so many things that we love about Daylight Sucks – from the intriguing and fascinating storyline, to the magnificent artwork and graphics created by Juan Pablo Solarte, and more. Plus, if you read the issues, you’ll notice that the characters look familiar as the characters in the comic book series are actually visually inspired off of many actors and actresses we all know and love including stars from the hit Nickelodeon show, Every Witch Way, that Katie Barberi worked on.
With two marvelous issues already released and another new one coming out this month, we all can’t wait to see the adventures that the Alnwicks and Esperanza Martinez will go through and if the vigilante vampires and Esperanza Martinez will ever cross paths with one another. Daylight Sucks is truly spectacular and Katie Barberi and Craig Hurley have done such a brilliant job bringing this comic book series to life and it is definitely our new comic book series obsession.
