There is never a dull moment during the Champions of Magic show. It’s a superb and spectacular show that friends, family, and people of all ages will love and adore. I, Alexisjoyvipaccess had an exceptional time interviewing the two geniuses of magic, Fay Presto and Alex McAleer. Check out our interview below!

Fay Presto:

Alexisjoyvipaccess: What inspired you to focus your life around magic?

Fay Presto: I needed to eat. At a time of my life when there was a serious recession on, I was approaching 40, options for work were closing off, I was unqualified. Why not try magic?

Alexisjoyvipaccess: You’ve performed for a countless amount of celebrities including Madonna, Paul McCartney and even the Queen of London. What have those experiences been like for you?

Fay Presto: I think you’ll find Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth is rather more than the Queen of London. I had bluffed my way into performing round the tables at ‘The Hippodrome’ in London. It was our Studio 54. So, wall to wall ‘celebs’. The first private party I was ever asked to perform at was Eric Clapton’s 40th birthday. I was walking around a room in a very grand house doing some rather pathetic card tricks, and John Hurt, Ringo Starr, and others I had only read about in the newspapers were applauding …me. It felt rather … strange, but ignorance was my friend and I just got on with it. It seemed a better option than shaking in a corner.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: What are you looking forward to the most on the “Champions of Magic” tour?

Fay Presto: To paraphrase Paul Simon…. laughing on the bus, playing games with the faces, checking that men in Gaberdine suits are not spies, being careful of bowties that might be a camera, counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike, we’re all going to look for America, looking at the scenery, trying Mrs. Wagner’s Pies and watching a moon rise over an open field. We’re all going to look for America, we’re all going to look for America, but most of all finding out what makes American audiences feel laughter, joy and wonder and seeing if I can deliver a little of mine.

Alex McAleer:

Alexisjoyvipaccess: What inspired you to focus your life around magic?

Alex McAleer: After my mother passed away when I was fourteen I spent a long time studying human psychology and even ‘spiritualism’. Along the way I discovered the truth behind the psychological techniques and tricks used by “psychic mediums” which lead me into a whole genre of a magic that fascinated me. I’d always been a bit of a shy kid but also a bit of a show-off, so it wasn’t long until I built up the courage to start performing these tricks of the mind but without all the psychics mumbo-jumbo.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: You’re one of the most awe-inspiring mind readers – is there a moment from your career in magic that sticks out to you the most?

Alex McAleer: It’s hard to pick just one moment but touring the UK over the past few years with this show has been a real joy, hanging out with the cast and crew, getting the chance to perform a big show every night, meeting the audience after – all great moments.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: We know that you’ve also written several books on your techniques. What would be your number one technique that you always share with fans?

Alex McAleer: One simple mind trick that’s always fun to share is asking someone to press their palms together, interlock the fingers of each hand with each other, and ask them to point both index fingers out in a V shape. You then take control of their mind by telling them to imagine they have magnets in the tips of their fingers, and the pull of those magnates gets stronger and stronger. Eventually their index fingers start to pull together! If you get really good at it you can get their fingers to stick together – not permanently of course!

The Champions of Magic show is certainly one that you don’t want to miss! If you live in the California area and weren’t able to attend the recent show this past Friday, you still have a chance to head on over to the Champions of Magic show in Cerritos on November 18th.
