According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), “surveys say about 20 million women and 10 million men in America will have an eating disorder at some point in their lives.” Many people from all over the world, of all ages, have either had an eating disorder or are currently suffering from one. The inspiring and brilliant foundation, Breaking the Chains is here to help put an end to that. This incredible foundation, brought about by the magnificent Debra Hopkins, works endlessly to change the face of eating disorders through art. Breaking the Chains has impacted a countless amount of people and it continues to do so as the milliseconds go by.
It was a monumental day for the outstanding foundation on October 13, 2018 as Breaking the Chains was the theme of the IAEDP Foundation’s annual brunch. Breaking the Chains Founder, Debra Hopkins was able to share all of her exceptional, hard work with over 100 eating disorders professionals at the event. The brunch took place at the Coffee Connection in Los Angeles, California. Celebrities including Jillian Rose Reed and Brooke Lewis, who serve as celebrity ambassadors for Breaking the Chains, were also in attendance to show their support towards the foundation’s big day. In addition, Breaking the Chains board members were at the event and motivated many people to join in and get involved with this stellar foundation.
The remarkable Debra Hopkins gave a touching and phenomenal speech to start off the event. She said, “Acknowledge. Engage. Participate. Celebrate. There is a spirit of hope amongst all of us, within us, about us. One that acknowledges the need to go make a difference in this world. One that engages to enrich that hope – to participate by taking action and nourishing that hope – a hope that is celebrated because hope is that special.”
It goes without saying that Debra Hopkins and everyone involved with Breaking the Chains have done all that is mentioned in the speech to make a difference in the lives of so many. They have acknowledged how eating disorders is something that many people are affected by and something that people can suffer from in silence. They have engaged with one another to find various ways to help people and share stories so people know they are not alone. They have participated in many walks, events, and have used social media in positive ways to help spread awareness. And, they have indeed celebrated. They celebrate the many people who have recovered from eating disorders, those who have gotten help and they continue to celebrate the future of Breaking the Chains and what it can do for even more people.
A powerful dance performance of “7 Chairs” took place at the event and it truly mesmerized everyone. The marvelous Jillian Rose Reed, who has been an avid supporter and celebrity ambassador for Breaking the Chains for several years now, introduced the dancers onto the stage. The dance speaks for itself and is choreographed by the talented Alex Little. In addition, Breaking the Chains board members also showcased their terrific paintings and photography at the event.
The phenomenal Brooke Lewis also hosted an exciting raffle giveaway for attendees at the event. Brooke Lewis gave the winner of the raffle an amazing gift-bag filled with goodies including a copy of her renowned book, Coaching From A Professed Hot Mess as well as beauty product must-haves from her TASH Cosmetics line.
