With awe-inspiring and breathtakingly beautiful choreography and incredible, original music – High Strung Free Dance is an artistic masterpiece that will mesmerize all viewers.

In High Strung Free Dance, “Zander Raines, a dazzling, young choreographer (Thomas Doherty) gives the break of a lifetime to two, hopeful artists when he casts a stunning, contemporary dancer, Barlow and an innovative pianist, Charlie (Harry Jarvis) in New York’s most-anticipated, new Broadway show: Free Dance. But, the move throws off the show’s delicate, creative balance when Charlie falls hard for Barlow (Juliet Doherty) while Zander embraces her as his muse. The emotions run hot igniting a rollercoaster of impassioned rivalry, romance and determination. The question is, how much are these talented artists willing to risk for love?” (source: press release)

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Congratulations on High Strung Free Dance. We are super excited for it to make its way to theaters on October 11th. What was it like for you working on the film?

Harry Jarvis: Thank you very much, I’m excited too! I’ve been asked that a lot and every time I say it was the best on set experience I’ve ever had. The dancers in High Strung are some of the most talented people I’ve ever met and also such nice, down-to-earth guys and girls. We stayed in the same hotel together for over a month and everyone on set became so close. I always say working on a film you form a family so quickly and when it’s gone, you really miss it. Thomas, Juliet and I had such a great time together and still talk and meet up whenever we’re in town. So, overall, an amazing experience and I’ll count myself lucky if I get to work with anyone from that set again.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Can you tell us a little bit more about your character in the movie?

Harry Jarvis: Charlie is an aspiring musician who’s struggling to achieve his dream of playing piano professionally in a city as competitive as New York. He’s got all the drive and work ethic you could ask for, but might be considered a little too nice to get what he wants. He has a turbulent relationship with Zander (Thomas Doherty) and is enamoured by Barlow (Juliet Doherty), but his one true love will always be music.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Is there a moment that sticks out to you the most from working on the film?

Harry Jarvis: From a sociable side, there were so many moments that stuck out – Thomas almost pulling down a tree whilst trying to dance around it being one of my favourites. But, the moment that Juliet danced “Liar” in the movie was a stand out moment for me. It opened my eyes to dance in a way I hadn’t really seen before. When you see it in the movie, I’m sure you’ll understand why, but it is a truly breathtaking scene.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: The cast also did some traveling for this movie. Can you tell us where you traveled to and what the experience was like for you?

Harry Jarvis: Yes, we did the bulk of filming in Bucharest, Romania, which is one of the coolest places I’ve filmed in. Culturally, it’s quite amazing – the remnants of the 1989 revolution are still there, but the most beautiful architecture I have ever seen also sits side by side next to buildings still sporting bullet holes. The people in Romania were also so welcoming and took us to some fantastic spots. If you’re ever in Romania, look out for “The Garden of Eden.” Also, Juliet and I traveled to New York, which I had never been to before. We got to film in Central Park, Times Square, in front of the Empire State building, Chinatown and many more places that I had only seen in movies. On top of the buzz of the city that never sleeps, I also got to see some amazing, professional sign spinning and met Nigel Lythgoe (So You Think You Can Dance) as he worked on the movie for a day. So, the traveling experiences were a real highlight for me!

Alexisjoyvipaccess: What are you looking forward to the most for fans to see in the film?

Harry Jarvis: The dance, the music and the fantastic cinematography. All of the dancers are unbelievable and working alongside them meant that there was never a dull moment on set. They have so much energy and are constantly creating and improvising new things. The composer on the movie, Nathan Lanier, is one of the most gifted people I have ever met. He created a variety of new scores for the film including a jazz number, prepared piano and of course, the finale piece, which I still listen to at night sometimes because it’s so beautiful. He helped me learn the piano over the course of a month and a half, alongside my teacher, Eljon Vejsiu. Together, they helped me bring to life these incredible, musical numbers and I could not be more grateful for their help and I can’t wait for the fans to hear the music. Finally, the cinematography is fantastic. Viorel Sergovici, our Director of Photography, did some truly superhuman things with the camera. Watching the film, I can’t quite believe that he was able to sprint backwards with an extremely heavy camera between moving and flailing limbs of the dancers, and keep a perfectly still shot whilst capturing everything. That man deserves a medal.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Lastly, if you could bring out one message to all of your fans, what message would that be?

Harry Jarvis: That’s a tough question. But, if this film teaches nothing else, it’s this: follow your heart and try and accomplish what you really want. It takes time and effort, but hard work pays off. Everyone who has done anything great has dealt with failure and rejection; but learning from mistakes and coming back again stronger will help you achieve whatever it is you desire. So, I guess my message is: follow your heart and work for what you wish for… Oh, and also watch High Strung Free Dance.
