In the highly-acclaimed Disney+ series, Diary of a Future President, viewers are able to step inside the world of 12-year-old Elena, played by Tess Romero, as she goes through the trials and tribulations of middle school, all while having big aspirations of being the future president of the United States. The fantastic show is told through Elena’s narration as written in her diary, and gives a glimpse into Elena’s future as she gets inaugurated as president. Created by Ilana Peña and executive produced by Gina Rodriguez (who guest-stars in the series as adult Elena), Diary of a Future President inspires all viewers to dream big and always work hard.

Starring in the amazing show as Elena’s brother, Bobby is the talented actor, Charlie Bushnell. Making his acting debut in the series, Bushnell has and continues to wow all viewers in each and every episode. Bushnell’s effortless, acting skills helped him bring his character to life in such a brilliant and entertaining way. We all love getting to see what Bobby is up to next and Bushnell truly exhibits his acting talent so magnificently. A fun fact about the outstanding Charlie Bushnell is that he actually began his acting career by training himself. He would memorize monologues everyday and film himself. He then later joined school plays and started taking acting classes. Diary of a Future President is a beautiful start to Charlie Bushnell’s long and exciting career in the entertainment world. It goes without saying, he is destined to accomplish a countless amount of other wonderful things.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Congratulations on all of the incredible success with your career! First off, can you tell us what inspired you to focus your life around acting?

Charlie Bushnell: Thank you so much! After watching the first season of Stranger Things, I immediately knew I wanted to act. Even when I was little, I always loved to entertain people and make them laugh – my parents always said I would be the actor in the family, way before any of this happened.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Your show, Diary of a Future President is currently streaming on Disney+. What was the experience like for you working on the series?

Charlie Bushnell: Working on this show was a dream come true! It was probably the best summer of my life. Everyone was so amazing and fun! I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to work with!

Alexisjoyvipaccess: What is your favorite part about playing your character, Bobby?

Charlie Bushnell: One of my favorite parts about playing Bobby was that I had to learn how to play tennis. I had never really played before, but now it is one of my favorite sports. I’m no pro or anything, but I plan to keep playing!

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Is there a specific moment from working on set of the show that sticks out to you the most?

Charlie Bushnell: I loved our weekly table reads so much. The whole cast would get together around a big table and read the upcoming episode. Another moment that I’ll never forget was when we wrapped season one. I’m not much of a crier, but I just started bawling. I wasn’t ready for it to be over!

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Can you spill on any behind-the-scenes fun that happened while working on set of the show that fans may not know about?

Charlie Bushnell: I was never not having fun on set! We all became best-friends, so we were constantly just cracking each other up in between takes. Something you may not know though is that all of us kids in the cast hung out almost every day while we were filming, of course, but including the weekends when we were weren’t working. Did I mention that we became best-friends?

Alexisjoyvipaccess: There are so many wonderful lessons that this show brings out to viewers, such as the importance of being persistent in chasing after your dreams. What is the biggest takeaway you’d like viewers to get from watching the show?

Charlie Bushnell: I think it’s really important for kids and teens – everyone really – to see characters on TV who they can relate to, achieving great things. I hope our show will inspire anyone and everyone to follow their dreams, stand up for what’s right, and to be proud of who they are.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Diary of a Future President looks back at Elena’s time in middle school and how her journey led to her becoming the president. If you can give your younger self advice, what advice would that be?

Charlie Bushnell: This advice still applies now… stop procrastinating! I’ve definitely had a few school projects in the past (and recently) that I waited until the last minute to do, and it was not fun!

Alexisjoyvipaccess: To all the “future presidents” out there going after their passions, what advice would you give to them?

Charlie Bushnell: Don’t be afraid to dream big, no matter what it is that you want to do in life. But, in order to make that happen, you need to be willing to work hard, be persistent and give yourself the chance.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: If you could guest-star on any other TV show, what show would it be?

Charlie Bushnell: Definitely Stranger Things! I love that show so much. If it weren’t for them, I might not be doing this interview!

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Which actor / actress would you like to work with on a future project?

Charlie Bushnell: That’s a hard question! There are so many. Obviously, getting to work with everyone from Diary again is the dream. I’m still pinching myself that I got to work with such incredible actors. And, this may come as a surprise to you, but anyone from the Stranger Things cast… haha. There are so many people I would love to work with, though. It would be super fun to work with Robert Downey Jr.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Lastly, if you could bring out one message to all of your fans, what message would that be?

Charlie Bushnell: It’s still weird to hear “your fans” haha. I guess I would just say THANK YOU! Thank you for watching the show – you have no idea how much it means to me. And, I love you all!
