The ocean covers 71% of Earth’s surface, and almost every action we take has a direct effect on this beautiful, big mass of blue. There are many things that contribute to the pollution of our beaches and ocean – everything from plastic bags to the use of straws, and especially since the pandemic began, the improper discard of masks and gloves. That’s why it’s in our hands to do everything we can to help minimize ocean pollution and preserve the sea.

On August 3, the Shiseido Blue Project teamed up with World Surf League PURE and their We Are One Ocean grantee, WILDCOAST for an impactful beach cleanup during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California. Renowned actor and admirable, ocean advocate Ian Somerhalder was hands-on at the event picking up trash left on the beach and sharing his great love for the sea that surrounds us.

The brilliant Somerhalder emphasized the importance of taking care of our beaches and protecting marine life. It was a truly inspiring day to see such a talented and exceptional actor use his platform for good and encourage everyone to take part in initiatives like this to help save our planet. Shiseido is not only the top cosmetics brand, the company continues to make many efforts to make a positive difference in this world. This year’s event marks Shiseido’s second beach cleanup gathering. What better way to keep the summer season rolling in a wonderful way than with Shiseido’s great work with the World Surf League’s non-profit PURE?! World Surf League PURE’s main mission is to empower and educate people on ocean preservation.

The sun was shining bright at the U.S. Open of Surfing as environmental activists, celebrities, surfers, and beach-goers joined together to clean up the beach with Somerhalder. With their garbage picker tool in hand and a bucket to collect the waste, guests were able to track down the trash they collected during the cleanup. Professional surfers including Conner Coffin, Kanoa Igarashi, Lakey Peterson, and Sky Brown also joined in on the fun.

A day basking in some rays at the beach requires one very important thing… sunscreen! Shiseido was on deck with their unrivaled sunscreen products including their Expert Sun Protector Face & Body Lotion SPF 50+ and their Clear Suncare Stick SPF 50+ to provide some extra sun care while attendees helped clean the beach. U.S. Open of Surfing attendees were invited to sample the amazing products, and needless to say, Shiseido never disappoints.

Taking care of your skin from the harsh beams of sun is crucial and Shiseido makes protecting your skin effortless with their magnificent products. Shiseido is a game-changing company in the cosmetics world that brings out only the best of the best of the most revolutionary products. Their sunscreens are an absolute essential to have during the summer season. Shiseido’s suncare products apply to your skin so seamlessly. You almost forget like you’re wearing sunscreen because it feels so lightweight, but it sure does the job. It goes without saying, Shiseido’s suncare products are something you should always have in your beach bag.
