When it comes to love, you need all the right plays and a supportive team behind you. That makes love, well, a team sport. Grab your special someone or your gal pals because Netflix has the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day / Galentine’s Day with the highly-anticipated release of Players on Feb. 14.
Directed by Trish Sie, Players follows “New York sportswriter Mack (Gina Rodriguez), who has spent years devising successful hook-up “plays” with best friend Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.) and their crew. While it has led to countless one-night stands over the years, following their playbook comes with a strict set of ground rules — chief among them: you can’t build a relationship from a play. When Mack unexpectedly falls for her latest target, charming war correspondent Nick (Tom Ellis), she begins to rethink the game entirely. As the lines between work, fun, friendship, and romance begin to blur, Mack must learn what it takes to go from simply scoring to playing for keeps.”
Players stars the aforementioned Rodriguez, Wayans Jr., and Ellis, along with Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, and Marin Hinkle.
Prior to the release of the movie’s trailer, Rodriguez shared her excitement over the film in a post on her Instagram account. Along with the post, she wrote, “PLAYERS…kicking you straight in the heart nuts Valentine’s Day 2/14 on @netflix THIS CAST 😍😍😍 THIS EXPERIENCE 🔥🔥🔥 THIS MOVIE 💥💥💥 excited for you all to watch!”
Ellis shared the trailer on his Instagram account and wrote, “Love is a team sport ❤️ PLAYERS comes to @Netflix this Valentine’s Day February 14th!!!! I had so much fun making Players and even more fun watching it!!! ENJOY ❤️”
