“Music is my place in the world. It’s how I communicate.” – Alok
He’s taken on the stage at many renowned electronic dance music festivals, but DJ phenomenon Alok’s performance at the GRAMMY Museum on March 25 may have just been the most special performance he’s done yet. At the event, the unrivaled DJ gave attendees an inside look at his highly-anticipated, upcoming album, The Future Is Ancestral.
This unprecedented project highlights Alok’s electric and mesmerizing beats while bringing awareness towards Indigenous Peoples and their culture. The Future Is Ancestral will move everyone and has already garnered so much support from organizations including the United Nations, UNESCO, Greenpeace and more. The admirable Alok worked tirelessly on this album to have Indigenous Peoples’ voices heard and stress the importance of connecting with the forest and seeing its importance. Alok combined his melodic and unique sound along with harmonious vocals from Indigenous Peoples to create an absolute masterpiece of a project.
The inspiring event kicked off with a short video showcasing the creative process behind making The Future Is Ancestral. The video gave attendees more insight into how much passion, research and dedication was put into creating this body of work. After, Alok took the stage along with Célia Xakriabá, the first Indigenous Federal Deputy, and spiritual leader Mapu Huni Kuin for a Q&A about the project. The Q&A was moderated by power publicist Dawn Miller.

“This project is the most important project of my career because it’s not about myself, it’s about really being a platform for Indigenous voices,” said Alok. “I feel that once you don’t have consciousness of something, it’s very normal that you make a mistake. But if you’re conscious about something, it’s not a mistake anymore, it’s a choice, and what’s your choice? So, I think this project really is to bring awareness and consciousness about all of this and I think the best way to do this, honestly, is through the songs.”

After the Q&A, Alok and Indigenous community members from Brazil joined together for a spectacular and wondrous performance. It truly was an unforgettable night hearing Alok’s invigorating tunes brought to life for an impactful mission.

Alok has established himself as a true sensation.
