Who said spooky season has to be only in October?! Friday the 13th just got a whole lot eerier with the highly anticipated release of the horror film Scared to Death. This hair-raising thriller invited attendees to a special VIP event on March 10, where guests were literally scared to death as they entered the Woodbury-Story House for a frightening experience like no other.

I had a scarily good time at the event, and I’m bringing you all inside with me. But before you get an inside look at the event, let’s learn more about the film.

What is Scared to Death about?

The film follows a young filmmaker named Jasper who gets the opportunity to direct when his crew takes part in a séance at a haunted children’s shelter. Things take a turn for the worse when the group becomes haunted by ghostly orphans and a sinister force. Needless to say, Scared to Death will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

Scared to Death is written and directed by Paul Boyd and stars Lin Shaye, Bill Moseley, Olivier Paris, Jade Chynoweth, Victoria Konefal, B.J. Minor, and Kurt Deimer (aka “The Grog”).

A creepy visit to the Woodbury-Story House

The VIP event brought guests to the Woodbury-Story House, the first-ever house built in Altadena and the filming location for Scared to Death. This historic home is also known for hosting several other horror favorites, including American Horror Story season seven and many others.

Guests were fully immersed in the film as soon as they entered the home, which featured a “Stern Orphanage” sign draped outside, along with memorabilia from the film displayed throughout the house. Just like in the movie, guests were able to participate in a séance and experience the ultimate surprise during it. There were several other spine-chilling activations at the event as well. Attendees were invited upstairs to the attic for more ghostly adventures, and there was also an opportunity to meet members of the cast, as well as the award-winning Legacy Effects team, who showcased the film’s key effects.

The event ended in epic fashion with a special acoustic performance by Kurt Deimer.
