Well, wonder no more as you can see it all happen in the prestigious and remarkable 2016 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports which airs on Nickelodeon, TeenNick and Nicktoons on Sunday, July 17th at 8:00 PM ET / PT. The renowned Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports was back with another epic and slime-filled award show at the UCLA Pauley Pavilion celebrating everyone’s favorite sports stars and sports moments and the filming took place yesterday, July 14, 2016. Every year, Nickelodeon manages to bring an incredible amount of excitement at the Kids’ Choice Sports, where sports pandemonium takes place. This year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports yet again made both entertainment and sports history, and it definitely was one of the greatest award shows this summer!

Seattle Seahawks’ very own Russell Wilson was back again as the incredible host of this year’s award show for the second year in a row. After getting attendees and viewers even more pumped for what’s to come during the award show, Russell Wilson got a warm welcome as host by being slimed! This is one of the earliest times in Nickelodeon award show history that a host has been slimed that early during an award show; but Russell Wilson is always a good sport… get it, Kids’ Choice Sports, a good sport?! Okay… moving on to more KCS excitement!

Some of the many phenomenal sports stars that were awarded with a coveted, mohawked blimp included Stephen Curry, Lebron James, Cam Newton, Alex Morgan, Rob Gronkowski, Leticia Bufoni, KCS host Russell Wilson and more! In addition to all of the marvelous awards that were given to our fave sports stars, thanks to all of the fans voting, there were also a whole lot of spectacular sports challenges throughout the award show. From Game Shakers stars Cree Cicchino and Madisyn Shipman peddling it out to the finish line and Jagger Eaton and Tony Hawk taking on one fast-paced, skateboarding challenge, attendees were all at the edge of their seats with so much action-packed fun. Here is a look at some of the sports challenges that took place during the award show. (source: press release)

  • CC Sabathia and Von Miller zipped their way through the KCS 500, an obstacle-ridden race around the perimeter of the entire arena, on high-speed pedal racing carts
  • Tony Hawk and Jagger Eaton went head to head in a skateboard challenge and rolled down an epic 65-foot long ramp inside slime-filled Zorb balls in the Human Bowling Challenge
  • Victor Espinoza, Emanuel Sanders, Nikki and Brie Bella, Andre Drummond and Jamie Anderson took competitive eating to a new level in the Key Slime Pie Challenge
  • In the Smash Mountain challenge, Rob Gronkowski and fellow footballer Russell Wilson battled obstacles, scaled a nearly vertical 65-foot ramp and wielded sledgehammers to smash their way to the Kids’ Choice Sports medal
  • And teammates Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson faced off in the Big Slime Ballers Challenge, a three-point contest where each shot triggered slime-filled nets above kid rebounders.

Three awesome teens from across the nation who were selected after the nationwide tryouts got their chance at winning $50,000 with the Kids’ Choice Sports’ “Triple Shot Challenge.” Reynaldo Fernandez, of Los Angeles, Calif., Oliver Callanan, of Portland, Ore., and Jake Lombardo, of Wayne, N.J. all took on the stage to show their awe-inspiring skills and Oliver Callanan took home a whopping $50,000 by completing a 30-yard kick that hit the crossbar on his first try of the soccer challenge.

One of the many extraordinary highlights of the event is when the iconic, record-breaking and stupendous Kobe Bryant was awarded with the “Legend Award” at the Kids’ Choice Sports. Bryant gave an inspiring acceptance speech about how important it is to work hard and to persevere even when there are people who may try to bring you down. The night wasn’t complete without a traditional golden sliming for Kobe Bryant to welcome him into the “Legend Award” hall of fame. Zendaya presented the award to Kobe Bryant.

Other excellent moments at the KCS included one awesome dance-off between Rob Gronkowski and Ciara – let’s just say, they have some of the greatest moves! In addition, J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson, and Dahntay Jones of the Cleveland Cavaliers entered in on the stage holding their NBA finals trophy and LA Kings Tyler Toffoli made some hockey shots at the one and only Nick Cannon.

As a whole, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports is one of the most inspiring events on this planet. The Kids’ Choice Sports shows that with hard work, determination, being focused, and following your dreams, anything is possible and you too can be a legend. There is nothing more eye-opening than seeing that sports icons like Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, and many more, were all kids who had a dream, and because of their hard work and perseverance, they become the idols, role models, and legends that they are today. In addition, this award show influences everyone to get up and get active and it shows the importance of playing sports. Everything of Nickelodeon – from award shows to TV shows and more is a masterpiece.

In attendance at the event included Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Michael Strahan, Nick Cannon, Rob Gronkowski, Tony Hawk, Andre Drummond, Cam Newton, CC Sabathia, Ciara, Dahntay Jones, Derrick Rose, Iman Shumpert, Jonathan Ogden, Karl-Anthony Towns, Klay Thompson, Kristaps Porzingis, Leticia Bufoni, Marcelo Balboa, Marvin Jones, Brie and Nikki Bella, Nic Lamb, Tristan Thompson, Von Miller, Cameron Dallas, Game Shakers’ Kel Mitchell, Cree Cicchino, Madisyn Shipman and Benjamin Flores Jr., Talia in the Kitchen‘s Gail Soltys, Bella and The Bulldogs‘ Lilimar, Make It Pop‘s Erika Tham, Henry Danger‘s Ella Anderson and Sean Ryan Fox, Jagger Eaton, 100 Things To Do Before High School‘s Isabela Moner and Jaheem Toombs, School of Rock‘s Breanna Yde, Tony Cavalero, Lance Lim, Ricardo Hurtado, Jade Pettyjohn, and Aidan Miner, Legendary Dudas stars Theodore Barnes, DeVion Harris, Dallas Liu, Meyrick Murphy, Megan Richie, Daniella Perkins, Jackson Dunn, and Mylo Gosch and The Other Kingdom‘s Esther Zynn and Celina Martin, amongst many more.

With every excellent year of the marvelous Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports, there is always one stupendous sports star that is honored with the prestigious Legend Award at the event. The Legend Award recognizes an athlete who has achieved above and beyond in his / her athletic career, but at the same time, has also served as a terrific role model to all of his / her fans. Past Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports recipients include David Beckham and Derek Jeter, both of whom were welcomed into the Legend Award hall of fame with a very special golden sliming.

Nickelodeon has just announced that this year’s Legend Award recipient at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports will be none other than the iconic, five-time NBA Champion, four-time NBA Finals MVP and two-time Olympic gold medalist Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant has accomplished more things in his career as one extraordinary and incredibly skillful basketball player than we could ever possibly imagine, and throughout all this time, he has inspired and influenced basketball lovers and everyone in general to follow after their dreams and pursue their ambitions.

Kobe Bryant shared his excitement about being honored with the Legend Award by stating, “It’s an honor to receive Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports Legend Award.  This is a great opportunity to inspire kids to never lose their imaginations and to dream bigger than what they think is possible.  If you stay true to that, the hard work, dedication and success will always follow.”

“Bryant is a five-time NBA Champion, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, NBA MVP, four-time NBA Finals MVP and a 15-time All-NBA player.  He recently retired from the game having played his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers.  He has appeared in 18 NBA All Star Games, earning three NBA All Star MVP recognitions.  He became the League’s youngest player ever to be named to the NBA’s All Defensive Team, to start an All-Star Game, and to earn All-Rookie honors.  In December 2014, Bryant became the League’s 3rd all-time leading scorer, surpassing his basketball muse, Michael Jordan. On April 13, 2016, Bryant played his final NBA game, setting a season-high 60 points.” (source: press release)
