Meow! Does YOUR cat have what it takes to be the next internet cat superstar? June 27, 2014 marked a momentous day – the one and only, Friskies teamed up with the prolific Fine Brothers and Friskies’ “spokescat”, Grumpy Cat to announce the 3rd annual “The Friskies”! The spectacular and exciting announcement was brought out at the prestigious Vidcon event at the Kia Mainstage at the Anaheim Convention Center.

“The Friskies” is known to be the “renowned awards for the best Internet cat videos of the year” (source: press release). Cat lovers and owners can upload their cat’s greatest moments now through July 21, 2014 and enter in “The Friskies” through Vine or Instagram or http://www.TheFriskies.com and get the chance to win a grand prize of up to $25,000 and win a catuette. WOW… I mean, MEOW!

According to the press release, ” “Cat videos have become a pillar of online pop culture,” said Shaun Belongie, Friskies Senior Brand Manager. “We started ‘The Friskies’ in 2012 because we thought it was time for cat videos to be recognized and validated as an art form and we’re thrilled to celebrate the phenomenon of cat videos and the cats who inspire them for the third year in a row”.

So, what can YOU do to have the chance of making your cat the next cat superstar? You can send in videos up to one minute in length to http://www.TheFriskies.com. Another way to enter is through Vine or Instagram; but remember, if you are using those apps to submit your excellent cat videos, you must hashtag: #TheFriskies and the category that your video falls under – #Funny, #Rescute, #Strange or #Epic.

A few other fan-favorite Youtube celebrities joined The Friskies in this amazing cat-video opportunity! Youtube sensations: Grace Helbig, Zach King, Will Braden and Henri le Chat Noir and Jesse Wellens and NylahKitty will serve as captains for a specific category. Grace Helbig will be the captain for the #Funny category. Zach King will be the captain for the #Rescute category. Will Braden and Henri le Chat Noir will be the captain for the #Strange category. Jesse Wellens and NylahKitty will be the captain for the #Epic category. Each captain made a special video announcement on their Youtube channel to help promote “The Friskies”. In addition, each category will end up with 3 finalists- a total of 12 finalists announced on August 11, 2014. From August 11, 2014 to September 8, 2014, fans can vote for their favorite online cat video!

Amazing online cat videos – what could be better? Well, “every vote equals one can of Friskies wet cat food donated to 10 select shelter partners, up to 250,000 cans. Additionally, with direction from category captains Friskies will donate over $20,000 to partnering shelters”. (source: press release).
