There are movies that can make you cry your eyes out. There are movies that can leave you at the edge of your seat with tons of jaw-dropping moments. There are movies that bring awareness to a very serious subject. There is also one movie that encompasses all of that and it’s none other than the powerful, moving, and incredibly touching film titled “Man Down.” “Man Down” is a breathtaking movie that stars Shia LeBeouf playing the role of U.S. Marine Gabriel Drummer who returns home from his time in Afghanistan only to realize that things aren’t exactly the way they used to be.
As the story goes back in forth between the present time and flashbacks allowing Drummer to recall everything that has happened, viewers are able to learn more about the series of unfortunate events that he has gone through and the traumatizing moments that have made lasting impacts on his life. Gabriel Drummer, along with his lifelong friend and fellow Marine Devin Roberts (played by Jai Courtney), head out to find Gabriel’s son, Jonathan (played by Charlie Shotwell), and his wife, Natalie (played by Kate Mara). As the two head out to find Gabriel’s family, they encounter a man named Charles (played by Clifton Collins Jr) who could very much so be a significant help in revealing where Gabriel’s family really is.
The best way to describe a movie as stupendous as “Man Down” is by calling it an absolute masterpiece. Writer and director Dito Montiel and writer Adam Simon created the most riveting, impactful, emotional, and heart-wrenching film of this year. “Man Down” brings together the importance of family and love for one another and it gives another meaning to the military term, “Man Down.” In the movie, it’s not just a way to refer to a soldier who is injured, but it’s a way of saying “I love you” to family members the way Gabriel Drummer used “Man Down” as a way of showing his love and care for his son Jonathan.
The movie has many familiar faces and profound actors and actresses who all did the movie justice. Shia LeBeouf not only proved himself as a brilliant actor, he’s proved himself to be an extraordinary artist who shares his craft in the most awe-inspiring and remarkable way. By taking on this role, he has helped bring awareness to a heart-breaking problem that many veterans suffer from, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). It’s devastating to see how so many veterans endure so many hardships and life-altering circumstances both at the battlefield and once they return home. This movie touches the hearts of many and shows the importance of how everyday we should always honor the brave, courageous, admirable, and heroic individuals who sacrifice everything to give us all safety and freedom.
“Man Down” is a movie that will touch your soul in more ways than imaginable and is certainly a film that will have you crying from start to finish.
