Nickelodeon never stops bringing out exceptional content to all viewers; and now, we all get to look forward to a lot more fun as Nickelodeon announced it has picked up a full series order of The Substitute and has greenlit a brand new, holiday-themed competition series titled, Top Elf.
The full series order of The Substitute comes on the heels of the strong performance of two specials that aired earlier this year featuring Henry Danger‘s Jace Norman and comedian Lilly Singh. The Substitute has been picked up for 10 episodes. “The Substitute features stars who are transformed by a team of Hollywood special effects artists to go undercover as professionals in various fields, surprising unsuspecting kids in schools, camps and other locations. During the reveal at the end of the day, each organization receives a $25,000 donation” (source: press release). Not only is The Substitute incredibly fun and entertaining to watch as we get to see fan-favorite celebrities get transformed into unrecognizable substitutes, but it’s also so great that Nickelodeon is showing the importance of giving back to others through the donation. The Substitute is currently in production and the series will premiere in October.
It’s never too early to get in the holiday spirit and Nickelodeon is getting us all very excited for the holidays with the pickup of the brand new series, Top Elf. Kids, or shall we say “elf-testants,” will put their building and design skills to the test in order to win the jolly good title of “Top Elf.” “In Top Elf, Santa has invited seven civilian “Elf-testants” to the North Pole in a competition that tests their skills in a series of holiday-themed challenges. Demonstrating the true spirit of the holidays, the Elf-testants compete to have their wish lists granted–not for themselves, but for someone in their community” (source: press release).
Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Content said, “Giving our audience a range of unscripted content in different formats is one of our top priorities. Top Elf is an irresistible opportunity to celebrate the holidays with a uniquely comedic approach to a high-stakes competition. Our first new format from this division earned high marks from our audience, so we’re very pleased to order The Substitute for a full series” (source: press release).
Production on Top Elf begins this September and will premiere right in time for all of the holiday festivities in December. Top Elf will definitely bring a whole lot of holiday joy to all families.
