Emmy Award-winning media company, World of Wonder, has brought out a countless amount of masterpieces including RuPaul’s Drag Race, Stonewall OutLoud, Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures, Out of Iraq, and The Eyes of Tammy Faye; and recently, the production company proudly added a new documentary to their impressive roster. World of Wonder celebrated the premiere of their newest documentary titled, Liberty: Mother of Exiles, with a special #Liberty2Me Opening Night Gallery Reception that took place on October 17, 2019 at the World of Wonder Headquarters in Hollywood, California.
The marvelous gallery showcased brilliant photos taken by photographer Josh Telles of Diane von Furstenberg, Dulé Hill, Robin Weigert, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Karen Civil, and many others who support the documentary. In each of the photos, these influential individuals were asked the question, “What does Liberty mean to you?,” to which they wrote their answer on a piece of chalkboard. Answers ranged from “empowered” to “unity” to “responsibility” and reflected the impact that Lady Liberty has on us all.
Director, producer and World of Wonder co-founder, Randy Barbato, photographer Josh Telles, Robin Weigert, Dianne Doan and Lizza Monet all attended the sensational event. “Liberty: Mother of Exiles casts a new light on one of America’s most familiar symbols, revealing its little-known history, and celebrating it as an enduring beacon of hope for generations of immigrants” (HBO).
“The documentary begins with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new museum at the base of the Statue of Liberty, and follows legendary designer Diane von Furstenberg, “godmother” to the statue, who led the museum’s fundraising campaign, in her quest to discover how sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi’s dream became a reality and what the statue has meant to generations of people worldwide. The film reveals the statue’s unexpected history – a story filled with many false starts as well as significant financial and technical challenges that were ultimately solved in innovative ways” (HBO).
The #Liberty2Me gallery will run until October 30th at World of Wonder’s Hollywood Headquarters. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
