It goes without saying, kids truly are the future. We all know that Nickelodeon is all about celebrating kids being kids – from exciting activities that involve a whole lot of slime, to honoring those who are making an impact in the world. That’s why, Nickelodeon has partnered with TIME and TIME For Kids for the first-ever Kid of the Year honor. The year-long, multi-platform initiative includes a TV special that will air in December, hosted by the multi-faceted and sensational, Trevor Noah. The hour-long special will simulcast on Nick and the CBS Television Network.
The Kid of the Year special will recognize five, admirable kids who are making a difference in their communities, and will also commemorate one kid as the Kid of the Year, who will be featured in companion stories on TIME and TIME For Kids. Celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, sports and pop-culture will also join in on the fun to surprise the honorees. Excellent, musical performances will also take place during the special.
The honorees will also have the chance to serve as kid reporters for the respected TIME For Kids outlet at outstanding Nickelodeon events throughout the year. These kids truly serve as terrific role models for their generation. They encourage people of all ages to always do the best that they can to help others and the communities they live in. More details on the nomination and submission process for Kid of the Year will be announced at a later date.
Host Trevor Noah shared his excitement over hosting the upcoming event and said, “As a former kid, I’m looking forward to being part of Nickelodeon and TIME’s Kid of the Year special, which celebrates everything that makes young people amazing and gives them a platform to have their voices heard. Today’s kids want to actively make the world a better place and we should do everything we can to help. That’s the goal of this show. So, let’s take those first steps on the path to positive change together and shine a light on the good” (source: press release).
