When you’re planning an upcoming vacation, one of the first things you might do is look up any availability in a home-sharing app. Well, after watching the thriller film, The Rental, you might want to think again about doing that. (Yikes!) Profound actor Dave Franco is known for always doing a stupendous job in every project that he works on. From comedies to drama films, voice-acting and beyond – Franco is a consummate actor to admire, and now, he gets to add “director” onto his impeccable resume. After seeing his stellar work in The Rental, you’ll be surprised to learn that this film is his first one he has directed.

Franco talked about the origin of the film and said,  [The Rental] is inspired by my own paranoia about the concept of home-sharing, where I think about how the country is as divided as it’s ever been and no one trusts each other, yet we trust staying in the home of a stranger, simply because of a few positive reviews online.”

The Rental follows “two couples on an oceanside getaway [as they] grow suspicious that the host of their seemingly perfect rental house may be spying on them. Before long, what should have been a celebratory weekend trip turns into something far more sinister, as well-kept secrets are exposed and the four old friends come to see each other in a whole new light” (source: IFC Films).

To say that this spine-chilling film is scary is truly an understatement. It puts a terrifying twist onto something that many of us are so comfortable doing. If you weren’t wary about house-sharing before, this movie will definitely always be in your back-burner and make you a whole lot more cautious now.

The hair-raising film stars Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, Sheila Vand and Jeremy Allen White. The movie will have you at the edge of your seat the entire time. Every scene will make you wonder what’s going to happen next. You know this emoji: 😳 – that’ll be your face while watching the film. It’s frightening and is such an intriguing movie that will lure you in right from the start. The exceptional cast brought this chilling film to life in an excellent way, so much so, that you’ll want to sleep with the lights on after watching it. Of course, I can’t help but mention the show-stealer… or shall I say, *film-stealer*… Chunk the dog!

Director Dave Franco and the magnificent cast of the movie celebrated the film with an exciting, virtual Happy Hour event on July 17, 2020. Great Adventures podcast host and writer for Men’s Journal, Charles Thorp moderated the Q&A portion of the event. (And yes, cutie Chunk the dog also joined in on the fun and was a part of the Q&A!) After the outstanding Q&A, Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, Sheila Vand and Jeremy Allen White all took part in an incredibly entertaining (and hilarious!) Happy Hour horror-themed drinking game hosted by actor and comedian, Paul Scheer. Think Heads Up but Franco and the cast had to guess horror movies and characters. Guests at the virtual event were also able to join in on the game, so, needless to say, it was a. total. blast! I, Alexisjoyvipaccess had a marvelous time attending the virtual Happy Hour and trying to guess the horror films / characters based off of the clues given from the cast.

A perfect summer night consists of some s’mores, grabbing your favorite drink and watching The Rental. This nerve-wracking film releases on July 24th at drive-ins and On Demand nationwide. For horror movie junkies, this film is for you and for those who just want a night of shrills and thrills, The Rental should be your go-to!
