A new, astonishing and gruesome case awaits to be solved in the captivating, second season of TNT’s hit series, The Alienist: Angel of Darkness. Whenever the brilliant series is discussed – whether amongst friends or over social media – everyone always commends how sensational the first season of the show was. So, imagine the greatness of The Alienist‘s first season and multiply that by ten, and you’ll get the stellar and intriguing, second season of the award-winning series.

The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, which is based off of the sequel novel of the same name by Caleb Carr, picks up with Sara Howard (played by Dakota Fanning) who has opened up her own private detective agency. She reunites with Dr. Kreizler – aka “The Alienist” (portrayed by Daniel Brühl) and John Moore (played by Luke Evans), who is now a New York Times reporter, to take on a shocking, new case when the infant daughter of the Spanish Consular is kidnapped. “Their investigation leads them down a sinister path of murder and deceit, heading towards a dangerous and elusive killer. As in The Alienist, the series shines a light on the provocative issues of the era – the corruption of institutions, income inequality, yellow press sensationalism, and the role of women in society – themes that still resonate today” (source: TNT).

Viewers will find themselves completely enthralled by the second season after watching just the first few minutes. Filled with suspense, mystery and a countless amount of gripping moments, this season will further solidify why fans and critics are obsessed with this show and will easily add more people to the show’s already massive following. Needless to say, fans will be absolutely stunned by what transpires within the first scenes of the premiere episode.

The series takes place in 1897, however many of the show’s themes and topics are still incredibly relevant today. Fanning’s character, Sara Howard, serves as a noteworthy character that symbolizes women empowerment. She’s intelligent, headstrong and will stop at nothing to stand up for what’s right. Not only is the show so great for entertaining purposes, but the way it touches on such pertinent topics, many of which we are going through over 120 years later, makes us question if we have really learned from the past and moved forward in the right direction.

Another notable element of the series is the superb and striking costume-design. Viewers will feel transported into 1897 with the breathtakingly beautiful costumes and set. With horse-drawn carriages and Victorian-style clothing, the artistic costumes and set of the series are two of the many marvelous aspects that make this show so remarkable.

An incredibly unique, virtual premiere took place on July 16, 2020 to celebrate the new season of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness. I, Alexisjoyvipaccess, had the honor of attending the spectacular, virtual event which started with a live screening of the terrific, first episode introduced by the cast of the show: Fanning, Brühl and Evans. After the screening, an unrivaled ‘who dunnit?’ type after-party took place. During the after-party, guests were able to go into several rooms in order to get clues from certain individuals who were suspected of being a part of a murder. The event, which was again, taking place LIVE, allowed attendees to ask the suspects questions to help them solve the murder case. I was able to unravel the clues given to me in my wonderful #GiftFromTNT which included an interactive, mystery box consisting of a journal filled with letters and hints into solving the crime, a compass, and a magnifying glass (perfect to have gotten my sleuth on), amongst many other awesome items! I was also gifted a scrumptious box of treats including a brownie, matcha shortbread pocky, and ingredients to make an Old Fashioned drink. Exciting activities took place during the after-party including several cocktail demonstrations from Bobby Blue, an epic escape challenge in the magician’s room and more. The virtual premiere for The Alienist: Angel of Darkness can’t be beat. It was one of the most extravagant after-parties and brought all of the wonder and amazement from an in person event virtually to our screens.
