The world has been highly anticipating the premiere of HBO’s new series, Lovecraft Country, and our countdown to the big day is almost coming to a close. The powerful series, developed by Misha Green, is based on the novel of the same name written by Matt Ruff, and is backed by some of the greatest geniuses in the entertainment business including Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams, who serve as executive producers of the show. Lovecraft Country, a hybrid of historical events, drama and horror elements is a series that everyone needs to see.

The series “follows Atticus Freeman (played by Jonathan Majors) as he meets up with his friend Letitia (portrayed by Jurnee Smollett) and his Uncle George (played by Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (portrayed by Michael Kenneth Williams). This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback” (source: HBO).

Starring in the series as young Atticus Freeman is the wonderful Chase Brown. Alexisjoyvipaccess: You star in HBO’s much-anticipated series, Lovecraft Country, premiering on August 16th. Can you tell us what it was like for you to have worked on this powerful series?

Chase Brown: It was a great experience working on HBO’s series, Lovecraft Country. It was great because I got to be a part of HBO, which has been around a very long time and be on set with some really big actors. The series does touch on the Jim Crow Era, which is an era my great grandma (age 84) lived in and has talked about. So, me seeing how kids like me dressed and might have lived was very interesting. The series is also produced by some great producers! I’m excited about the finished result.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Do you have a memory that sticks out to you the most from working on Lovecraft Country

Chase Brown: Everything about Lovecraft Country sticks out because that was my first time on a TV set! I got a tour around the set. That was my first big hair cut in three years. I got to be with some big actors and they were really nice.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: You worked alongside many other great actors and actresses in Lovecraft Country. Is there something you learned from your fellow cast-mates / working on the show as a whole that really helped you in your acting career?

Chase Brown: I learned from Michael K. Williams that as an actor, I may have to change my hair a lot. I had to cut off all of my hair that I had been growing for three years. Since then, I’ve learned to not get attached to my hair because as an actor you have to change your look sometimes when stepping into different acting roles.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: You also worked on Tyler Perry’s series, Ruthless. What was that experience like for you?

Chase Brown: It was a fun experience. I got to watch Tyler Perry direct the show and see him in action. I got to see how fight scenes were done. Seeing some of his new studio and the White House he had built was pretty cool too!

Alexisjoyvipaccess: What would be your dream role to portray?

Chase Brown: My dream role to play would be a basketball player! I love basketball!

Alexisjoyvipaccess: If you could work alongside any other actor / actress in a future project, who would you like it to be?

Chase Brown: Michael B. Jordan, because he is a great actor and he seems really cool. He was great in Creed 2 and that’s one of my favorite movies. He’s a believable actor. He seems like he works out a lot and I work out a lot too because I run track and I still try to stay in shape.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: Lastly, if you could bring out one message to all of your fans, what message would that be?

Chase Brown: Keep chasing your dreams and if you want to do something, put your mind to it!
