Spooky season is coming early with the release of the spine-chilling film, Murder in the Woods! The thriller movie, directed by Luis Iga and written by Yelyna De Leon, is sure to bring a night of shrills and thrills and is a perfect way to get in the Halloween spirit. This eerie film also happens to star none other than the multi-faceted Danny Trejo. Yes, THE Danny Trejo, so just with that fact alone, you know that it’s going to be a hit, horror flick.
The scarily good film revolves around a group of teenagers who head over to a remote cabin for a weekend getaway of fun and partying. However, the celebration definitely doesn’t go as planned, with unimaginable and sinister things happening at every turn. In fact, before the teens even make it out to their destination, one of them hits an animal while driving, pretty much being a bad sign and an awful start to what will be a petrifying and horrific weekend.
This slasher film will certainly have you at the edge of your seat the entire time, and that’s also thanks to the remarkable talents of the cast-members. Murder in the Woods stars a multicultural cast with incredibly gifted Latinx actors and actresses who bring their impeccable, acting skills to this frightening film. The cast comprises of José Julián, Jeanette Samano, Chelsea Rendon, Catherine Toribio, Kade Wise, Jordan Diambrini, Kurt Caceres and Soledad St. Hilaire. Each of the cast-members’ spectacular talents truly shined in this film. The cast, director Luis Iga, screenwriter Yelyna De Leon and the crew all worked incredibly hard to create a movie that is bound to be a horror film cult classic.
“I realized that this type of film had never been done in English where Latinos and people of color are the leads and they are not portrayed in stereotypical ways,” said Iga. “This is why, while developing this indie feature, I was very conscious of making sure that there would be a diverse cast in lead roles. My goal was to make sure that we could tell a story that would showcase the talents of up-and-coming actors of color. That was very important for both my producing partner and I. This film showcases the talents of our young, diverse cast and I’m proud to say that we have made the first “All American Slasher” with a full diverse cast in non-stereotypical roles” (source: Murder in the Woods site).
Every moment of the film will have you wondering, who really is this heinous murderer targeting these group of teens?! Director Luis Iga said that his goal when creating horror movies is “to immerse an audience in a wild ride that will make them jump and scream,” and he did exactly that with Murder in the Woods.
Alexisjoyvipaccess had a magnificent time enjoying a special “Dinner and a Movie” thanks to Murder in the Woods. When my jaw wasn’t dropped from all of the shocking and suspenseful moments from the film, it was filled with delicious food from Urth Caffé, delivered by Postmates. I thoroughly enjoyed how this movie was so quick-paced. There was never a dull moment because you were always wondering what will happen next. The cast worked so great with each other. You’ll find yourself hoping and crossing your fingers each moment of the movie that someway, somehow the characters could get out from this treacherous weekend… alive.
