Ahoy piratas! X marks the spot on Friday, October 9th as Nickelodeon sets sail with the premiere of its brand new preschool series, Santiago of the Seas. Kids and their families will get to look forward to a ton of excitement on sea with Santiago and his trusted companions, Tomás and Lorelai. From finding sought after treasures to going face-to-face against his arch-nemesis, the bad-to-the-bone, Bonnie Bones, valiant pirate Santiago can always find himself in the midst of a thrilling adventure, and one thing is for sure, he always has his amazing mates by his side!
Created by Niki López, Leslie Valdes and Valerie Walsh Valdes, Santiago of the Seas is infused with a Spanish-language and Latino-Caribbean culture curriculum and “follows 8-year-old Santiago “Santi” Montes, a brave and kind-hearted pirate, as he embarks on daring rescues, searches for treasures and keeps the high seas safe in a fantastical Caribbean world” (source: press release).
The extraordinary series is filled with an endless amount of exploration and a whole lot of fun as viewers get to join Santiago and his team on their journeys. Santiago of the Seas is a magnificent show for kids to co-view with their families and create wonderful memories with each other. The animated series teaches life lessons that will truly resonate with and impact kids, such as the idea that a good pirate (and a good kid) never gives up! With incredible moral stories and an emphasis on friendship and courage, Santiago of the Seas establishes itself as yet another Nickelodeon masterpiece that will be one of the network’s many, top-ranking shows.
Santiago of the Seas has a countless amount of elements that makes it a hit series – from an action-packed and exhilarating storyline to a cast of gifted and immensely talented actors and actresses who bring this phenomenal show to life. Voicing the role of Santiago “Santi” Montes is Kevin Chacon. Justice Quiroz lends his voice to Tomás, Santiago’s energetic cousin and best-friend, while Alyssa Cheatham voices the role of Lorelai, a 150-year-old mermaid who can transform into a young human girl and who brings a whole lot of girl-power to the series. Kyndra Sanchez voices the role of Santiago’s enemy, the wicked Bonnie Bones. These remarkable, young actors and actresses have very promising careers in the acting world and their talents truly shine in each and every episode of this terrific series. Rounding out the cast is consummate actor, the great John Leguizamo, who voices the role of Sir Butterscotch, Bonnie Bones’ palm crow sidekick.
“Together, Santi and his best mates sail the seas on the majestic ship El Bravo, using their smarts, pirate skills and moral compasses to guard their home of Isla Encanto from villains. In the premiere episode, “The Legend of Capitán Calavera,” Santiago and his friends become the new pirate protectors of Isla Encanto after discovering the lost treasure of the legendary Capitán Calavera” (source: press release).
With a super catchy theme song and tons of merriment in every episode, Santiago of the Seas, although geared towards preschoolers, is a show that people of all ages will thoroughly enjoy. Following the premiere of the series, NickJr.com and the Nick Jr. app will feature original short-form content and full-length episodes.
