Alexisjoyvipaccess: Congratulations on all of the spectacular success with your career! You star as CJ Suki in the highly-acclaimed DreamWorks animated series, TrollsTopia. Can you tell us what it’s like for you working on this awesome show?
Kyla Carter: Working for DreamWorks Animation is a dream come true! The Trolls franchise is iconic and it is an incredible feeling to be able to say I am a troll in not only one, but two DreamWorks animated television series. My character CJ Suki is cool and so sweet. What is super interesting is that she was created based on some of my own features, like freckles and blue eyes. She is a pop singer, a spunky firecracker, and loves her Aunt DJ! I really enjoy the great music, fun characters, humor, and positive messages built around friendship.
Alexisjoyvipaccess: In TrollsTopia, Poppy brings delegates from the different music genre tribes to live together in her village. If you could be a part of one of the Trolls tribes — Country Western, Classical, Funk, Techno or Hard Rock — which one would it be and why?
Kyla Carter: Well, my character is actually a part of the Pop Trolls tribe. However, if I had to choose another tribe, I would definitely choose the country tribe! I have a lot of country girl inside of me!
Alexisjoyvipaccess: If you could see your character CJ Suki go on any kind of adventure in future episodes of TrollsTopia, what would you like to see happen?
Kyla Carter: That is an interesting question! I would like to travel with Keith, Pricilla, and Tiny Diamond to a Caribbean Island and meet Reggae Trolls, while CJ spins the music at the beach party!
Alexisjoyvipaccess: We also have to talk about your amazing music. First off, can you tell us who some of your musical inspirations are?
Kyla Carter: I love most genres of music and I am blessed to be able to sing and play many different music styles. However, I am inspired by the Beatles, Taylor Swift, Kelsea Ballerini and at the very moment, Harry Styles.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: You have a new single out titled, “Half Full Half Empty.” Can you tell us what the creative process was like making this outstanding song?
Kyla Carter: My phone notepad is full of hundreds of song lyrics and voice memos. When I am inspired, I stop what I am doing and immediately write it down. But, some days I stare at a blank paper for hours and can’t think of anything to write down. So, when inspiration strikes, I have to catch it! “Half Full Half Empty” was one of those songs that I was able to just write fast without picking up the pen. Once I knew I wanted to write about perspective, the words and a melody just flowed out of me. Since there is a lot of conflict in the world right now, I wrote the song about the choices we all have in life. We can try to see the positive side and the blessings or we can constantly focus on the negative. It is your choice. I choose HALF FULL!
Alexisjoyvipaccess: You also showcased your brilliant talent on Broadway. What was that experience like for you?
Kyla Carter: Working on Broadway for the past five years was a whirlwind of experiences and emotions. I’m so thankful that I got to play Gretel, Marta, and Brigitta on the Broadway National Tour of Sound of Music. As part of the original cast, I performed over 500 shows, visited over 50 cities and 26 states without missing one day of work or school on the road! The past two years I had the opportunity to play Susan Waverly in the Broadway National Tour of Irving Berlin’s, “White Christmas.” It is amazing to visit a new city every week and perform for audiences of 5,000 people!
Alexisjoyvipaccess: Lastly, if you could bring out one message to all of your fans, what message would that be?
Kyla Carter: Ignore the noise, always be true to who you are, and live your life, as I do, sunny side up!
