It’s time to put on your best dress and join the Elysian Park Garden Club ladies for one wild ride in season two of the highly-acclaimed series, Why Women Kill! With a new cast and storyline set in 1949, this second season will make jaws drop with all of the unforeseeable twists and turns in every episode. Glamorous dresses and pure elegance defines the Elysian Park Garden Club, but this exclusive group isn’t all they seem to be as everyone in the community harbors great secrets of their own.
The second season of Why Women Kill “explores what it means to be beautiful, the hidden truth behind the facades people present to the world, the effects of being ignored and overlooked by society, and finally, the lengths one woman will go in order to finally belong” (source: Paramount+). The series follows Alma Fillcot (portrayed by Allison Tolman), known by fellow community-members as “the veterinarian’s wife.” Alma always finds herself as the outsider looking in and she greatly yearns to be a part of the prestigious Elysian Park Garden Club. Alma will do whatever it takes (literally) in order to find herself hobnobbing with the club’s distinguished women and have her name be remembered. Running parallel to Alma’s story is the story of the admired Rita Castillo (played by Lana Parrilla). The head of the Elysian Park Garden Club, Rita is the wife of the wealthy Carlo Castillo. As she waits for her husband to pass, Rita engages in a steamy affair with a younger lover, Scooter (portrayed by Matthew Daddario), but she soon finds out that her lover has some secrets he has yet to reveal.
Each of these complex characters have several layers to them that viewers will eagerly look forward to seeing get peeled back as the episodes proceed. Creator Marc Cherry (who is also the genius behind classics including Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids), wrote these characters in such an intriguing way. You think you know someone until… well, you don’t. Each character has more than meets the eye in this incredibly compelling show that will have you at the edge of your seat the entire time.
In addition to the aforementioned Tolman, Parrilla, and Daddario, the series also stars Nick Frost, B.K. Cannon, Jordane Christie, and Veronica Falcón. All of the cast-members did such an effortless job at bringing great thrill and tons of “OMG, did that really just happen?!” moments to our screens. There is no doubt about it, you’ll be hooked on this dark-humored show!
Paramount+ and Refinery29 teamed up to host a killer event to celebrate the second season release of Why Women Kill with a remarkable drive-in premiere that took place on June 2, 2021 at the Rooftop Cinema Club in Santa Monica, California. Invited guests had the marvelous opportunity of getting a sneak peek look at the first full episode of the new season and needless to say, this show is truly to die for! Guests were encouraged to dress to the (nineteen-forty) nines for an exciting costume contest. There were tons of terrific attires that would make Rita Castillo oh, so proud and dresses that Alma Fillcot would be gawking over. Attendees also got to snap photos of their 1949 look with great picture activations. Once it was showtime, Refinery29 event producer, Steve Doss welcomed guests and motivated everyone to give a round of “honks” from their car as the outstanding show began. Guests got to enjoy a scrumptious snack box with popcorn, candy, soda and a creative “Liquid Death” can of water (that was perfectly fitting for the theme of the event!).
