Alexisjoyvipaccess: Congratulations on all of the brilliant success with your career! Your music has been on constant repeat for us all. First off, can you tell us what ignited your passion for music and how you got your start in the music world?
Devin Kennedy: Thank you. I grew up in a very musical family, so I started playing guitar and drums at a young age. As I started performing in middle school, it became clear that I wanted to pursue a career in music. I ended up studying music production and business in college and the rest is history.
Alexisjoyvipaccess: You recently released your latest single, “Silence,” which is at the top of everyone’s music playlists. What was the creative process like making that song?
Devin Kennedy: My co-producer Lukas Costas played me the demo of “Silence” almost two years ago. A few months back, the song came up and we decided to try to adapt it into something that could work for my project. The rest happened quickly and I’m so excited to have it out in the world!
Alexisjoyvipaccess: You’ve released several songs thus far, each one making an impact in its own way. What’s your favorite song you have released?
Devin Kennedy: That’s a tough one because I love all of my songs for different reasons. If I had to choose a song I’ve released that really captures the spirit and vibe of what I’m trying to do, I would say my song “Sundress” is my current favorite.
Alexisjoyvipaccess: Now, it’s time to know — what’s your favorite song lyric you’ve written and why?
Devin Kennedy: Also a tough question, but I always tend to come back to my song “Loose Change” as one of my favorites lyrically. I love the way we were able to connect emotions to something physical like pocket change – “Now I feel like loose change, out your pocket on a long day, I think I spend myself the wrong way, every day.”
Alexisjoyvipaccess: Where do you get your inspiration for your terrific music?
Devin Kennedy: Day-to-day life honestly. I find that the more I write, the more I tend to approach everyday life as a songwriter. I tend to find inspiration in the most random moments. Sometimes it’s something that someone says that just hits me the right way, or sometimes I think of something in the shower. The key is to keep my creative brain active and flowing all day, because you never know when inspiration will hit you.
Alexisjoyvipaccess: If you could collaborate with any other musician on a future song of yours, who would you like it to be?
Devin Kennedy: Working with John Mayer in any capacity would be a dream.

Alexisjoyvipaccess: You’ve embarked on your music journey for several years now. Is there something you have learnt about yourself throughout the process?
Devin Kennedy: I’ve learned a ton. The last year has really been eye-opening in terms of learning when to stop so I don’t burn out. I spent the last few years overworking myself and definitely not getting enough time with family, so I’m learning that it’s nice to take a step back and live life a little bit instead of just working on music all the time.
