La, la, la, la, la, la 🎶 Sing a happy song, la, la, la, la, la, la, smurf the whole day long! For once, it’s actually a good thing to be feeling blue as the Smurfs are making their way to our TV screens for the first time in almost 40 years in the all new, Nickelodeon series, The Smurfs. LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, the worldwide licensors of the popular franchise, and Nickelodeon recently announced the much-anticipated premiere date for the animated series, which will welcome viewers into the whimsical world of the Smurfs on September 10th at 7:30 PM ET/PT. Fans can join in on more of the smurf-tastic fun with new episodes airing on Friday nights on Nickelodeon, with an international debut set for this fall.
For several decades now, generations upon generations have relished in all of Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty and Clumsy’s great and thrilling adventures. And now, fans will be able to be a part of even more excitement through this extraordinary series.
Nickelodeon gave viewers a first look at the show by releasing the official teaser trailer and we all are just counting down the days until we can get our smurf on. The teaser showcases the impeccable and flawless CG-animation that looks absolutely pristine. We get to see Smurfette show off her kung-fu moves, the Smurfs flying amongst the clouds and of course, a glimpse at the dreaded Gargamel. Needless to say, we’re in for a lot of non-stop escapades in this smurf-sational show.
“In the premiere episode, “Smurf-Fu,” when Smurfette rescues Brainy from a giant snake, the other Smurfs ask her to teach them “Smurf-Fu.” Next in, “Diaper Daddy,” when everyone is tired of changing Baby’s diapers, Handy decides to invent a robot that will do the job” (source: press release).
The wonderful and talented voice-cast bringing all of the Smurfs merriment to our screens includes David Freeman (7 Promises) as Papa Smurf, the father figure keeping the other Smurfs in line; Berangere McNeese (Matriochkas) as Smurfette, a curious Smurf who is always ready to take part in new adventures; Lenny Mark Irons (No Man’s Land) as Gargamel, a conniving human wizard with a bottomless thirst to capture Smurfs; Youssef El Kaoukibi (NRJ Belgium) as Brainy, who considers himself the smartest of the bunch; and Catherine Hershey (Boundary Games) as Willow, the brave and wise matriarch of a new tribe of girl Smurfs (source: press release).
