Spooky szn has come early with the release of the highly-acclaimed, horror film, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It out today, August 24th, on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD! Whether you are closing out the summertime with a good ‘ol s’mores bonfire and movie night, or if you’re the kind of person who starts getting into the Halloween spirit months in advance (#guilty! 💁‍♀️), everyone knows that the best scary movie to have on your screen is a film from The Conjuring franchise. Now, you can finally watch the latest addition to The Conjuring family, the third film, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, with its debut on Blu-ray and DVD, and if you’re watching it for the first time or your 10th time, we highly suggest having a pillow to hold on to and clench during all of the frightening scenes!

The Conjuring movies have instantly become classics amongst thriller film enthusiasts, especially because each of the movies revolve around true stories. However, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It sets itself apart from the previous flicks as it covers “the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense” (source: press release).

This case was truly unparalleled and unlike anything that paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren have ever experienced… and they definitely have experienced a lot of unusual and rather terrifying things. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is completely captivating and has a unique and stark difference from the previous two movies.

In The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, directed by Michael Chaves, we’re introduced to the Glatzel family, whose young son, David (played by Julian Hilliard) is experiencing a horrific possession. The Warrens and David’s family, along with David’s sister’s boyfriend, Arne, are all together doing everything they can to rid the boy from his suffering – everything including Arne asking, rather begging, the spirit to take him instead of David. Time passes and as the Glatzel family is happy to move forward with their lives with David finally being freed from the demonic possession, now, young couple Arne and Debbie have a new problem to deal with – the evil spirit did indeed transform into Arne’s body instead. Chaos ensues, a murder takes place, and Ed and Lorraine Warren are presented with a case like no other; and they are left to connect the dots with other abnormal and downright petrifying, similar experiences that may help to explain what exactly happened with Arne.

The terrifyingly good film stars The Conjuring veteran actors Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, along with Ruairi O’Conner (who effortlessly and powerfully takes on the role of Arne), Sarah Catherine Hook (who does an exceptional job portraying the role of the loving and head-strong, Debbie), the aforementioned Hilliard, John Noble as Kastner, Shannon Kook as Drew, and the brilliant Eugenie Bondurant as Isla the Occultist. This cast is truly unrivaled and it’s clear to see that they all worked endlessly and so passionately and conducted tons of research to truly capture the eerie essence of this terrific film.

A standout character in the movie is, of course, the intriguing Occultist, brought to life in the most mesmerizing way by the gifted actress, Bondurant. The internet has been going crazy over this fascinating character. We’re introduced to the mystery of her character as she pops up towards the beginning of the film when Arne starts to feel the effects of the demonic possession taking over him. But, as we see more of the Occultist throughout the movie and learn more about this sinister character, we all can’t get enough. It’s so easy to get completely sucked in to this character as Bondurant’s acting skills are top-notch. We are left wanting to learn more about the Occultist and her backstory. Bondurant was able to portray the character of the Occultist in such a riveting way and this character will surely leave a lasting impact as one of the creepiest villains in any horror movie we’ve ever seen. As what fans online have been saying, we definitely want to see a spinoff movie based solely on the Occultist!
