They’re the first ones that actors see when they start their day and get ready to go on set – we’re talking about the influential make-up artists and hairstylists. On Saturday, Feb. 19, celebrities gathered together to celebrate and honor the impeccable work of make-up artists and hairstylists at the 9th Annual Make-Up Artists and Hairstylists (MUAHS) Guild Awards, which took place live at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Make-up artists and hairstylists are true visionaries whose work allows us all to step inside another world and truly feel immersed within a project. The MUAHS Awards, presented by HASK Beauty, was a star-studded event recognizing the best of the best in beauty in 23 categories of film, television, commercials, and live theater.

The big winners of the night in the motion pictures categories included Being the Ricardos, Coming 2 America, and Cruella. American Horror Stories, Dancing with the StarsEmily in Paris, PoseGenius: Aretha, and Star Trek: Discovery were among the winners in the television series categories. Saturday Night Live, Dancing with the Stars, and Legendary were awarded for the categories in Television Special/Motion Picture Made for Television.

The special night also honored entertainment powerhouse and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jon Favreau with the Distinguished Artisan Award. Favreau received the award virtually at the prestigious event. The MUAHS Awards also celebrated renowned actor, Doug Jones with the first-ever Chair Award. Jones is known for his unrivaled work portraying non-human creatures, which relies heavily on the work of make-up artists and special effects. Jones has shared his talent in a countless amount of projects including Star Trek: DiscoveryPan’s LabyrinthHellboy, and The Shape of Water, to name a few.

In addition, pioneering artists in the world of beauty were recognized at the event including Christina Smith, who received the Vanguard Award, and Michèle Burke and Joy Zapata who both received Lifetime Achievement Awards. Smith has exhibited her brilliant work in projects including Cabaret, Schindler’s List, and Steel Magnolias. Oscar and Emmy-winning make-up artist Michèle Burke has shared her awe-inspiring talent in the Mission Impossible and Austin Powers series. Emmy-winning hairstylist Joy Zapata has wowed audiences with her work in A Star is Born, Wonder Woman 1984, Star Trek: Nemesis, and many more.

The night was full of glitz and glamour as an abundance of admired stars filled the room to show their support towards the wonderful event. This Is Us stars Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia had a spectacular time presenting at the event. More magnificent presenters at the MUAHS Awards included Henry Danger and Danger Force star Michael D. Cohen, Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sonequa Martin-Green, Black-ish star Marcus Scribner, Dexter: New Blood‘s Alano Miller, Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory and Ridiculousness TV personality, Chanel West Coast, One Day at a Time and Head of the Class star Isabella Gomez, Fuller House‘s John Brotherton, model and actress Milla Jovovich, Reno 911‘s Cedric Yarbrough, The Young and the Restless star Kate Linder, Arrow‘s Katrina Law, and many more.

Young Sheldon star Melissa Peterman brought her marvelous and vivacious personality to the stage as she hosted the magical event. The immensely talented Frankie Grande, who is a familiar face in hit projects including Henry Danger and Danger Force and is a co-host of the sponge-tastic Nickelodeon podcast, SpongeBob BingePants, kicked off the party with his unrivaled energy as he served as the host of the “Red Carpet Pre-Show.”

The MUAHS Awards was a stellar event honoring the unmatched work of make-up artists and hairstylists who give their all to these projects and help make each and every story come to life.
