AlexisJoyVIPAccess: Congratulations on all of the outstanding success with your career! Can you tell us what inspired you to focus your life around acting?

Asher Bishop: Thank you! I think I was born with the acting bug. As long as I can remember, I’ve been creating characters, singing, dancing, and doing whatever it takes to make my friends and family laugh. As a young child, I loved Jungle Book and Mary Poppins and remember telling my mother I wanted to be on the big screen. I attended my first open call audition for a lead role in a Steven Spielberg film when I was eight. I received a callback on the spot and the following day signed with my agent, Melissa Berger Brennan, at CESD. I had a couple more rounds afterwards and while the film was ultimately canceled, the experience was exhilarating! I was hooked and I haven’t looked back since.

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: You voice the role of the iconic character, Lincoln Loud, in Nickelodeon’s The Loud House. What has that experience been like for you voicing the role of this fantastic character?

Asher Bishop: It’s been awesome! I was a huge fan of the show growing up and was honored to take over the role of Lincoln. I had big shoes to fill, but thankfully have an incredible team supporting me. I was fortunate enough to work with Tony Gonzales, who had coached all the prior voice actors portraying the role. He helped me shape my own version of Lincoln that remained true to his original character. I also worked closely with my long-time vocal teacher, Angela Jones, to bring Lincoln’s singing voice to life, particularly in The Loud House Movie. I’ve learned so much from the cast and crew, who have always made the process fun (even as we tried to navigate recording during the pandemic). I’ve grown immensely thanks to our brilliant voice director, Lisa Schaeffer, who always knows how to bring out the best in me. Suffice to say, I’m incredibly grateful that Michael Rubiner, Kyle Marshall, and so many others in the Nickelodeon family entrusted me with this iconic role.

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: You were nominated for a Children’s and Family Emmy Award for your work voicing the role of Lincoln Loud. What was your reaction like when you found out about receiving your first Emmy nomination?

Asher Bishop: It wasn’t on my radar at all, so I was completely shocked. I found out about the nomination from a friend who congratulated me by text while I was at school. I thought she was joking at first, but didn’t know what to think when she sent me the nomination posted from the Emmy’s official Twitter account. I called my parents, but they were also in the dark. A couple of hours later, my agent called confirming the news. I was ecstatic and so honored to be recognized for my work.

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: What is your favorite part about voicing the role of Lincoln Loud?

Asher Bishop: I get to explore a broad range of emotions voicing Lincoln. He is energetic, enthusiastic, and has an ever-optimistic outlook on life. He is a loyal friend (particularly to his ride or die, Clyde McBride) and caring brother to his 10 sisters. I love that he has a bit of a mischievous side to him as well, always plotting and planning or sleuthing like his favorite superhero (Ace Savvy) or secret agent (David Steele). Like many kids, he is always trying to negotiate his relationship with his siblings and his position in the Loud house. Sometimes he messes up, but ultimately, he learns from his mistakes. He is such a relatable character and positive role model for children and definitely fun to portray.

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: What is something you have learnt from Lincoln Loud that has really stuck with you?

Asher Bishop: You don’t have to be in the spotlight to be special! This is the message that resonated most for me in The Loud House Movie. The movie is the first time you see Lincoln feeling insignificant and overshadowed by his 10 sisters who all win awards and are praised by their fans for their various accomplishments, while he is shoved aside. In the song “Ordinary Me” (which I loved performing), Lincoln laments that he feels ordinary and craves a place in the spotlight where the world will finally see he is special, like his family. However, by the end of the movie, his family helps him realize that he has a talent for taking care of his sisters every day and that makes him “the most special brother ever.”

It’s such a heartwarming and relatable storyline. For Lincoln to recognize his value after feeling regular and boring, gave others hope, I think. A lot of people reached out to me on social media to tell me how much the song meant to them. They shared similar insecurities and said that Lincoln’s journey was a helpful reminder of their own self-worth. I was really touched by one fan who confided in me that she suffered from Tourette Syndrome and severe anxiety and found that listening to the song helped comfort her. Knowing that I have had even a small part in helping people like her is so rewarding.

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: If you could see anything happen in future episodes of The Loud House, what would you like it to be?

Asher Bishop: One of Lincoln’s closest friends (second only to Clyde McBride) is Ronnie Anne Santiago, who is voiced by Izabella Alvarez. The fans love her! I’ve received so many messages over the years asking if they’ll ever get together as boyfriend and girlfriend. They kiss in season one (in episode “Save the Date”), but then attempt to cover up any relationship. I think a lot of fans suspect that they have feelings for each other and want to see them together. It might be interesting to explore that angle in future episodes, especially since Lincoln has aged up and is now in middle school.

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: You also have a great passion for musical theatre and recently performed live on stage for Mamma Mia as Sky. What is it like for you being able to perform live on stage and combine your passions of acting, singing, and dancing together?

Asher Bishop: It’s wonderful! So much goes into preparing for a live performance. You rehearse tirelessly (often seven days a week), but it never feels like work. You challenge yourself in ways that you didn’t think possible. You form special bonds with your cast and crew that remain long after the show has ended. When you are on stage in front of a live audience, the energy is electric and infectious, and you feel so alive! There’s nothing quite like it.

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: If you could describe the feeling you get performing on stage in just one word, what word would it be?

Asher Bishop: “MAGICAL”

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: What would be your all-time dream role to portray on-screen?

Asher Bishop: I’d love to be involved in big musicals like Westside Story, La La Land, The Greatest Showman, Moulin Rouge, or Tick Tick Boom – there are too many to list! I’m obsessed with anything Lin-Manuel Miranda. It would definitely be a dream to work with him someday. I also think it would be cool to work on a big action
film. I love heights and think it would be a lot of fun to be attached to wires and flying harnesses. I guess you could say I wouldn’t mind playing Spiderman someday!

AlexisJoyVIPAccess: Lastly, if you could bring out one message to all of your fans, what message would that be?

Asher Bishop: Be true to yourself and embrace those who appreciate your authenticity!
