Renowned entertainment group, Cirque du Soleil, has mesmerized over a whopping 180 million spectators with its innumerable amount of riveting and awe-inspiring shows, but, without a doubt, its Corteo show has to be the best one yet. Whether you’re a Cirque du Soleil veteran and have seen multiple shows or if you’re planning to watch your very first one, Corteo is certainly a must-see, and its magical run takes place from now through April 30 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Corteo means cortège in Italian. The captivating show follows Mauro the Dreamer Clown as he explores life and death through a joyous procession he imagines. Corteo attendees are invited to Mauro the Dreamer Clown’s funeral, but this isn’t a typical, solemn and woeful funeral. In fact, what ensues is a festive celebration with everything from nostalgic, childhood memories to dreamlike merriment as we say our final goodbye to Mauro.
Cirque du Soleil shows are known for its breathtakingly beautiful performances, and Corteo sure does deliver extraordinary and simply astonishing acts that leave the audience speechless. From a stunning, chandelier routine with incredibly skillful acrobats defying gravity, to the jaw-dropping “Tournik” horizontal bar number, each performance in Corteo has spectators saying one word: wow.

Aside from the surreal acts in Corteo, the costumes, the set design, and the incredible music are also what makes the show the true masterpiece that it is. Costume designer Dominique Lemieux created over 80 costumes for Corteo cast-members and found a perfect way to make the pieces look ethereal and vintage while maintaining a high-quality for the show’s top-tier performances.
There were also some firsts for the Corteo production. According to Cirque du Soleil’s press notes on the show, “set designer Jean Rabasse divided the rotating stage in two, with each half of the audience facing the other half, so they see not only the performance, but also have a performer’s-eye-view of the audience.” This is something that hasn’t been done in Cirque du Soleil history.
Corteo incorporates scenes high up on tight-ropes and featuring gigantic balloons, and juxtaposes that with acts straight down on the stage floor. This allows viewers to have a truly unforgettable, visual experience of different heights.

The spectacular show had its marvelous Los Angeles premiere on March 23, welcoming celebrities and influencers to see the wondrous production. Modeling icon, Adriana Lima, Harry Jowsey, David Archuleta, Josh Henderson, Jessica Frances Dukes, Dexter Darden, Casper Smart, rock ‘n’ roll legend, Tommy Lee, and many more had a sensational time watching the outstanding show.
