Hope Leigh of Me & Mr. Cassidy band talks exclusively to Alexisjoyvipaccess and exclusively tells Alexisjoyvipaccess all about what it was like working on set of the music video and so much more. 1. Can you tell us what the atmosphere was like working on set of the music video for your song, “Save For Now” which stars Michael Turchin and Tatyana Ali?
It was so incredibly playful. One of the Producers, Noah, has been a friend of mine since College and our interaction is very sibling-like as you can see in the Behind The Scenes Video! (http://youtu.be/FOVirflxdJ8). Our Hair stylist is one of my best friends, and the MUA I had just worked with on a Brow Gal photoshoot so the glam-squad felt very tight-nit! Usually, as the only girl in the band, our studio time is very masculine – so it was fun to be girly and primped. It was fun for Michael and Tatyana to work together because Michaels husband Lance Bass, was obviously in NSYNC and Tatyana actually used to open for them on tour back in the day – it was so full circle. Lance surprised Michael on set, and came to say hey to Tatyana, and it blended to well with the entire day- it just felt like everyone had been friends forever. Tatyana and Michael play a couple in the video so it was good they felt close so quick, their love is really believable on film. In the more serious moments on set, everyone was so professional. The director Tony IS SO EFFICIANT and fast, thank god for him – because the rest of us took every chance we could get to laugh.
2. What was the creative process like for you and your band, Me & Mr. Cassidy when making your song, “Save For Now”? Where did you get your inspiration for the song?
Some of our songs start from Scott, and some me – this one started with Scott and when he brought it to me (Hope) I was instantly in love. I felt connected to it as if it had come from my own experiences. It has been fun to see that we each interpret what it means separately.
We started to record it with Celebrity Producer Michael Smidi Smith. He has worked with everyone from Sia to Miley to Haim, and it felt so incredible to be in his space – it really felt like the big times. We tracked the initial guitar as his home studio in Los Angeles, and finished the project with our main producer Ellis Tucker and had a handful of other Engineers come on board. ( Daniel Krieger and mastering from Alex Johns) We pulled a lot of inspiration tracks to help place what instrumentation we wanted to add since the song was initially just guitar and vocals. We knew we wanted it to be bigger for the video.
We brought on Bassist Conor Gaffney ( The Makepeace Brothers) and drummer Mike Garzon ( HELLOGOODBYE) for the final mix and we could not be happier. I get spoiled by the talent around me and all of these boys are brothers to me.
3. If you could describe the “Save For Now” music video in 1 word – what word would that be?
Time. ( Though it isn’t a descriptive work, the entire video played with time – it is shot entirely in slow motion, and each scenes shows a version in the present as well as in the past.
