A new year comes new music to listen to, and if you’re looking for some tracks to add onto your playlists to kick off 2022 the right way, then SixForty1 should definitely be your go-to. Pop-country duo, SixForty1 is made up of gifted musicians Brooks Hoffman and Austin Gee, who have truly been blessing our ears with some of the greatest songs to jam out to. They recently released their sensational EP, Started Right Here, which features songs including “Bad,” “Never Gets Old,” “Started Right Here,” “Not Me Missing You,” “Me and Your Memory,” and “All Night.” There truly is a perfect SixForty1 song for every moment. One thing is for sure, SixForty1’s music never gets old and is something we all can listen to all night.
Gee and Hoffman make such a wonderful, dynamic duo. When they’re together, their creative juices are always flowing, leading to the genius lyrics we hear in all of their songs. Needless to say, SixForty1 has the “it” factor. Their music always has meaningful lyrics and a great message, and it makes you want to just cruise down the highway with the windows down and their songs on full volume. And, don’t even get us started on their outstanding, stage presence. AlexisJoyVIPAccess: Congratulations on all of the remarkable success with your career! Can you both tell us what inspired you to focus your life around music?
Austin: I’ve been in / around music my entire life and I knew singing was my passion from a very young age, I just needed to figure out how to utilize it. There’s something about being on a stage and performing to an audience that gives me an adrenaline rush like no other. Once Brooks and I got together and started writing our summer going into junior year at Murray State University, we both had that realization of “wait, this could actually work.” So, we went all in and it’s been an amazing journey so far.
Brooks: Growing up, I had no idea I’d move to Nashville to pursue music full time. I had always loved writing and recording, but just did not see it as a possibility until all the right parts fell into place after we graduated from Murray State. I love the creative process, so it’s exciting to wake up everyday and create something new for us and fans to enjoy. Getting to play those songs live is an added bonus. I love seeing the impact our music has had on the road.
AlexisJoyVIPAccess: You have your new EP, Started Right Here out now on all music streaming platforms. What was the creative process like making this incredible EP?
SixForty1: During the process of creating the EP, we worked with a few people who we meshed well with. That made creating everything from the album cover, the music videos, and finishing the recordings seamless. Started Right Here is the most complete project we have released to date and we could not have done it alone.
AlexisJoyVIPAccess: What’s your favorite song off of Started Right Here? And, let’s dive a little deeper, what’s your favorite lyric from that song?
Austin: I love “All Night.” There’s a vibe to that one that’s hard to explain, but you can definitely feel it. My favorite line is in verse two where it goes, “We all got our problems we don’t know how to fix.” TRUE.
Brooks: I’d have to say “All Night” as well. My favorite line is, “go til that moon’s missing.” I thought that was a creative way to say partying until the sun comes up.
AlexisJoyVIPAccess: You guys recently released the “Me and Your Memory” music video. What was it like working on set of that music video?
SixForty1: Fun fact… that entire video was filmed in our apartment here in Nashville, TN with our friend Julia as the female lead. We’re ballin on a budget over here. It was a great time all around and our director Anna Clary did an amazing job of capturing our vision for the song. It was one of our more complex videos with Julia being in both the present tense, and the past tense as the “ghost,” so we had to figure out a way to make smooth transitions all while keeping the story line intact.
AlexisJoyVIPAccess: You both have also been mesmerizing fans with your brilliant concerts. If you could describe the feeling you get performing on stage but as a song title, what would it be?
Brooks: “This Is How We Roll” by Florida Georgia Line
Austin: “House Party” by Sam Hunt. Our goal every show is to have the place rocking like a house party.
AlexisJoyVIPAccess: If you could collaborate on a song with any other musician, who would you like it to be?
AlexisJoyVIPAccess: 2022 is right on the horizon, what are some projects you guys are working on that fans can stay tuned for from you?
AlexisJoyVIPAccess: Lastly, if you could bring out one message to all of your fans, what message would that be?
