
There are two pivotal elements that help drive the story in our favorite movies and TV shows and they are… hair and make-up. Whether it’s bringing a hilarious scene to life that will literally make you LOL or perfectly capturing what life looked like during a specific time period, we truly do owe it all to the visionary make-up artists and hair stylists for creating some of the most memorable looks in the cinematic and television masterpieces we’ve all come to know and love. A special event during awards show season, the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Awards, also known as the MUAHS Awards, honors the unrivaled and impressive work of these creative geniuses. The 2023 MUAHS Awards, presented by HASK® Beauty, Dyson, and QMS Medicosmetics, brought a whole lot of glitz and glamour to The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Feb. 11.
The spectacular event brought a countless amount of renowned celebrities together to celebrate the awe-inspiring and mesmerizing achievements of make-up artists and hair stylists across motion pictures, television, commercials, and live theater. This year’s show was hosted by Melissa Peterman, with Frankie Grande hosting the red carpet pre-show.
There were many incredible highlights at this year’s awards show. Profound and prolific actress, the unparalleled Angela Bassett, was honored at this year’s event with the prestigious Distinguished Artisan Award. The award recognized her unsurpassed character portrayals and her work collaborating with 706 make-up artists and hair stylists to create movie magic and the unforgettable looks of her many fan-favorite characters. Bassett continues to leave fans speechless with her magnificent projects, and this year was another exciting one for the consummate actress with her stupendous work in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which garnered her a win at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards and nominations at this year’s Oscars and SAG Awards. Bassett was presented with the award by her brilliant, personal make-up artist, D’Andre Michael, and Academy Award nominated hair stylist, Camille Friend, who who was the Hair Stylist Department Head and Designer on both Black Panther movies.

More excitement continued at the MUAHS Awards with Oscar and Emmy-winning make-up artist, Steve La Porte being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was presented with the award by Academy Award-winning makeup artist, Rick Baker. La Porte is known for his exceptional work in Beetlejuice, Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock, and Terminator 2 & 3. Star Trek: The Next Generation star, Jonathan Frakes, presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Emmy-winning hair stylist and colleague, Josée Normand, for her work in Star Trek: Voyager, Die Hard, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Admired make-up artist, Ve Neill presented the Vanguard Award to Fred C. Blau Jr. A pioneer in blood effects and tattoo artistry, Blau is known for his work in The Illustrated Man, Tattoo, Apocalypse Now, and Planet of the Apes.
Iconic actor, Jason Alexander, presented hair stylist, Judy Crown, with the Vanguard Award. Crown has worked with Alexander on the highly-acclaimed, award-winning series, Seinfeld.

The 2023 Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Awards was a star-studded event seeing many other celebrities join in on the wonderful night’s festivities. Cooper Barnes (Henry Danger), John Brotherton (Fuller House, Furious 7, The Conjuring), Meg Donnelly (Zombies, American Housewife), Kate Flannery (The Office), Alexis Floyd (Inventing Anna), Peter Gallagher (Grace & Frankie, Law & Order), Kate Linder (The Young and the Restless), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Christopher McDonald (Hacks, The Watcher), Amber Riley (Glee, Dreamgirls), Nicole Sullivan (Law & Order: SVU), and Alanna Ubach (Bombshell, Euphoria,
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Elvis, The Whale, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Abbott Elementary, Euphoria, Pam & Tommy, Our Flag Means Death, The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special, Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration, Legendary, and The Kelly Clarkson Show were some of the many big winners at the 2023 MUAHS Awards.
Guests at the event were treated to a marvelous gift bag with phenomenal goodies from Floral Street, HASK® Beauty, Ardell, Beauty Blender, Benefit Cosmetics, Brush Off, Charlotte Tilbury, and many more fantastic brands.
